MiniLD #30 – Update on Project Cyborg

Posted by
Saturday, November 5th, 2011 5:37 pm

Now I have a Menu Screen.

AWESOME.

And an about screen.

DOUBLE AWESOME.

AND a simple particle system for when the cyborg knocks over buildings.

OVER 9000 AWESOME.

So far, I’m not sure how long I have spent on this, but maybe all-in-all, about 3-5 hours of coding. I’m pretty happy with how it is turning out, now I just need my friend to draw some textures for the different objects (or I could if I have the time).

So yeah.

The first ever game I have made.

Made especially for Ludum Dare.

I won’t be pasting the source code, but I will eventually (around Janurary/Feb when I get my mac back from school) I will purchase the Corona SDK Subscription, and the Apple Developers pack, and actually test this on a device, make changes, then send to the App Store.

I will be sure to update you guys on the news on this game, because I am sure I will want to finish this game. (I think I might even enter the next LD in December).

And time for a quick pic:

MiniLD #30 – I’m in!

So this is my first *real* time entering any Ludum Dare competition (I have tried before but gave up 5 mitnues in because I knew nothing), but know after having to learn this for school, I thought now would be a good time to see what I can do.

So.

I’m making an iPhone game, using Lua + the Corona API on the theme of “Adaption”.

My idea if your a giant robot that adapts/steals technology from buildings around you to survive and conquer the city.

This is what it looks like right now after I’m not sure how long spending on it (I think the timelapse has time encoding on so I’ll check later):

The large white box is the player, the ground is the gound and the small things are buildings.

I’m quite happy because this is working better then I thought it woul, and is the best written code I have ever typed.

So yeah, this might get released on the App Store later after working on it some more (after the comp) (if I like it that much)

Any comments/ideas are appreciated.

Entering!

I know I said this last year, and all the other LudumDare compo’s that have been on since then but now I’m finally getting into programming again (or really starting now). I have been using Corona SDK for creating iPhone games but have decided to move off it it due to the iPhone Developers Licensing fees and all the money involved, and have moved onto Unity!

I’ve been following a few tutorials, with no Java knowledge, and I’m glad at how it’s turning out and how simple Java is and how simple it is to use it in conjunction with Unity. So I have gotten a group of peope together, where we all learn different languages and tools and make games and I am making the first one to be sold. Not sure how I will sell it/earn money yet, but I’m leaving htat to last, probably using Kongregate or something simliar.

Expect more posts from me soon on the progress of my game!

Timelapse Recorder

Just before the competition starts, does anyone have any good free timelapse screen-recorders for windows? I have Camtasia but don’t want to save  the large files for the hours I will be recording.

Second Ludum Dare!

Well it is my second, but I didn’t finish the first one after some bugs with the BGE.

So really my first one! I really want to finish this one even though I can’t use the computer for all 48 hours, but I can stillt ry to make something simple.

Not sure what I’m using yet, but it will either be Corona SDK with Lua or Flash with the Flixel library (most likely this one).

Hope to see you there!

MiniLD – Dynamite

Posted by
Friday, May 27th, 2011 3:53 pm

Hey guys!

I’ve had this idea, and its kinda combination of all the themes.

A: Name of the game

Digging with Dynamite? (Haven’t decided on it yet)

B: Description (140 chars)

A 2d-minecraft type of game where you use dynamite to get to the flag (goal/end of level), either by destroying a hole to fall through or building stairs using it. (I was originally going to have randomly generated terrain, but scrapped that idea because of the placement of the flag. Now that I think about it maybe…)

C: One mockup image

D: Definition of Done: (Example) 3 levels, 3 enemy types, 1 boss, music track, sfx

I might go a minimum of 3 levels to get done. No enemy types (maybe 1 with VERY basic AI, IF time permits (i’ve got a very busy weekend)). No bosses (the enemies if done will stop you from getting to the flag). Sound Effects (using sfxr) and 1 music track (again, if time permits). Now. If I have 2-3 levels done (my minimum) on time, I might try implementing a random cave/level generator so the levels can either be infinite or different for a challenge every time you play.

So as I said before, I will be using:

-flixel (flashdevelop,flex)

-photoshop (graphics)

-sfxr (sound effects)

-LMMS (for music, if time permits)

Hopefully I can use this as my very first game!

Officially Entering!

First game ever made (by myself and not copying a tutorial) will hopefully be completed for the upcoming MiniLD! I tried to participate in the last LD with the Blender Game Engine but failed with the Library Linking System, so over the past weeks I have taken up the task of learning flixel. And that is what i shall be using for this MiniLD.

So, This is a list of what I should be using:

-flixel

-flash develop (flex)

-Photoshop (graphics)

-sfxr (sound effects)

-LMMS (music, maybe if time permits)

Can’t wait till the topic is posted in the next few hours, and having a good time game making!

The Forgotten Concept Art…

Posted by

Here is my forgotten concept art i drew for this, with my two ideas:

-JaydenB

-Idea 1 (what i’m not using but want to and might end up using)

-Idea 2 (what i am currently using but the zombies are being a pain in the butt)

Next Time…

I think next time I’ll use Flixel or FlashDevelop because Blender is being  pain in the *** when trying to make this game. I’ve use it before but have forgotten one thing, bullet collision…

So far, so good….

So far I have modeled the main character and zombies, animated the main character and started to add logic to him. Right now you can walk forward and back, and shoot. Time to get some zombies in there.

Want to know..

It seems like most game ideas come up with so far are to do with Zombies…. I had that and started making it, then I had a better idea but I better not turn back now. Or maybe I could (change my idea that is)

If you are making a game with zombies, leave a comment below…

Time spending ideas?

Hello everyone,

If you have read my last post, I’m going to be missing half of Ludum Dare because of a holiday and was going to complete the other half when I get back. I was wondering how much time most people here use on actually developing the game (not including time for eating, sleeping, etc.) just so I know I wont cheat by spreading 48 equal hours across the next few weeks.

Thanks for your answers!

I’m in! And not…

Hey guys,

This is hopefully going to be my first Ludum Dare Compo, but the bad thing is I’m going away for holiday half way through the comp. :( . So, what I’m going to do is start it, work half way through and then when i get back, finish it (without playing anyone else’s) and then uploaded it.

Hopefully this turns out to work!

-JaydenB

(I will most likely be using either Blender 3D as the Game Engine or be using Flixel and that sound effect generator thing… forgot the name)

Finally!

Ok. I have finally decided on what game I am going to make, i have designed it, and everyhting else. other then made it. And, I also haven’t decided what platform to make it for? What would get the most sales? I am like a moderate intermediate user of python, but that is all, i want to be able to sell this. And school starts in 2 days, thats the other thing. ;P Might not be able to make this one if I can’t make the game.

Question: If anyone knows, how would I sell a game for Windows?

Brand New!

Hello People.

I’m jayden, 14 years of age, and want to start getting into making small little video games, and thought these challenges would be a good place to start. I was planning on making a 3D FPS in Blender, using it as the main 3D tool, and as the Game Engine, but I thought that was kidna cheating. i am looking at using Unreal Engine, and am looking into the legalities and licenses of that. I am not sure if I should od a simple flash game, or something like that. iw ant it to be simple, but not too hard.
