Nothing done yet; my laptop spent the weekend in the service of a higher power. I’m going to get started on something tonight, though :) Better late than never…
The theme is Domestic Violence.
Let’s put a not-too-strict deadline of midnight sunday GMT on it. (I’ll have a hectic weekend, so might not get my entry in until monday, say).
Assets, code can be premade/reused, &c.
Okay, I’m pushing this late in the month to the weekend 27/28. But it will be then :) I’ll announce the theme that friday.
Peace out,
S
mac build only for today. windows tomorrow. it’s really awful though, so nobody’s missing anything.
oops forgot linky
Ludum Dare was fun last weekend. My entry ended up being not by any means satisfactory, though, and mainly jammed into the last few hours of sunday evening.
Nonetheless, here be it:

OS X 10.5+ (Intel)

Okay, as per requested:instructions.
1: you initially occupy one ‘equipped’ square.
2: when anyone approaches an equipped square, they will be forked and killed.
3: you can only move about on dead bodies.
4: if you move to a piece on the periphery of your ‘kingdom’ (of dead bodies), you equip it.
5: if an equipped square is completely surrounded, it becomes unequipped.
6: there are blue guys, they are rather aggressive, and can destroy your tiles.
7: if they destroy a tile you’re on, you die.
8: the game keeps track of the maximum size your kingdom has been; if it ever differs from this by more than ten, you die.
So instead of spending this evening coding the game, I spent it trying to get SDL/Allegro working with Lisp/Scheme. No love, so back to C++ tomorrow for the final push (and, indeed, the first push…).
grrr had trouble coming up with something. have finally committed to an idea at the least. here be a mockup:

time to get coding now…

Have the basic game engine done, I think. Have some levels done, need to do more. No sound effects yet. Need to work on level-loading now (currently hardcoding, which won’t work).
the game itself is turning out, happily, much nicer than I had anticipated ![]()

Keeping things minimal. Just going to work on this for a couple of hours probably, in flash as well. I found the topic relatively uninspirational, but I’m sort of happy with that, because it gives me an excuse to toss off something small
(some of the other stuff here is looking pretty nice…)
justnoticed the compo an hour a go. Will do something quick and experimental for tomorrow

towlr? I barely knew ‘er!
I’ve made a direct mac port, it’s available here:
OSX 10.5 (2.3MB)
It’s identical to the windows one. I had been meaning to tidy up both a little bit before this release, but I haven’t had time.
Also, I’d like to say that I had a lot of fun this competition and, though it took some not inconsiderable amount of time time, and also playing through what entries I could; some really beautiful stuff came out of this competition. I look forward to the next one…

Ah, it was work, but it’s more or less done.
Download here for windows. (2MB)
Download here for OSX 10.5 (2.3MB) (added 19th dec)
The source is here. (2MB)
Permanent homepage is here.
I’ll have a mac version cobbled together within the week.
Tools:
Used Allegro/C/The GIMP/FMod Ex/a microphone/audacity/milkytracker/sfxr/Dev-CPP. Used two samples from soundsnap.com.
Only have two more things on my list of 9 left (which, thankfully enough, are more or less the same thing). Nothing new to show for it just yet, though. :/
I actually have made some progress. I decided to forego aggression and remove bullets. Of my list of nine things, I have two-and-a-half done so far. Not bad, I guess, but…more to do…

Morning of day two. Have an itemized list of 9 things to do. Doable things. So: I’m on track then.
But first, breakfast:

needs more collision, but…reasonably okay progress for the first day…will add basic sound effects, then catch me some sleep.

It might not be clear from the above screenshot, but it’s been a tough landmark to get to! Okay, I’m only clocking in at 366 lines of code, and I haven’t even started on the game yet proper (no graphics done yet, for instance), but I’m finally in a good position to make progress.
First though: dinner!
Just woke up a couple of hours ago, and saw the theme. Ferociously busy, but have an idea. Will try get the engine written today, add some game tomorrow…nothing coded yet though :/
and: breakfast (wip shot):
