Third time !
After a strange roguelike and a failed “discovery-shuttle-dragging-the-moon-to-crush-aliens” thing, I’m in for the third time !
Probably in Jam though, I’ll use some of my existing code. Since I suck at graphics, there will be none. Same for the sound. However, I like networking, and multiplayer, so… Maybe a MUD ? We’ll see !
Half point, full doubts
Well, here’s a first prototype. And sadly, even messing with the laws of the universe don’t make this fun. At least that’s a discovery : don’t try to mix space travel and planet dragging into space invaders. And even changing this to space bowling or some kind of obstacle race would be infuriating.
That’s the point : making controls horrible just to make it a “game” doesn’t work. I may try again from scratch tomorrow, but I’m not sure yet.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zp52e5eght5ktcu, needs Löve 0.7 (found at http://love2d.org/ or in your favorite repository). This is actually a zip file, the sources are inside. Arrows to move, a/z to deattach/reattach to planet.
I’m in !
And for the second time, I’ll be here. And hopefully, I’ll do something with graphics, and able to run on windows \o/
Pills
AAAAnd I’m done !
Good night everyone !
13 endings.
Not including random crashes and exiting, which makes it a whooping 15 ways to get out of the game, 13 of which are at the end.
And I had to cut some, because if we simply add the probabilities, it’d be 64… What have I unleashed. Seven hours left to write the talking bits (already at 70 blocks / 600 lines, and I did something like 60% I guess).
Still can’t run it on windows, though :/

A night on the beach, with campfire.
Story, discussion trees, and soul-selling
It doesn’t show in the end, but building a decent discussion tree is HARD. I had to write it down, and now… I’m selling my soul.
I wrote my first goto in the game logic.
I’m going where I can’t return. Wish me luck.

Midnight update (half an hour early)
Hello from France !
I finally used Perl and Curses, so that grumpy BSD guy will be able to run my game. But for the Windows crowd… sorry :/ Since it’s my first LD, I tried to focus on finishing something, instead of blogging and futile things like graphics.
My game will therefore be… A mix of adventure game, and interactive fiction !
And damn, that’s long to write. The UI took five hours, and I’m five hours deep into the talking and scenario bits. Well… At least, noone did that. I won’t bother to take screenshots yet, though, since it would be… text. 400 lines of Perl yet, and the dialogue file is 200-ish lines. First draft here ! (again, you need Perl and the Curses package installed).
I need sleep badly
A new challenger ! But don’t worry.
Hi !
My name’s Henry and I’m a french student in computer science. I’m entering LD18, which is my first game-making adventure, and I hope to finish something really good. I’m experienced in distributed computing, cryptology, french, lojban, a tiny bit of journalism and law. Which seems to be useless, but who knows. I’m mostly a dev and a twisted mind, not a graphist or a musician. Sometimes I think of groupies and being a rock star, then I sigh and go back to debugging.
I’ll be using Java and LWJGL, or something more exotic depending on the theme (Perl + curses ?). I’ll work in Compo, although I may shift to the other side if there’s not enough time, or if I’m too tired to work, or in case of cosmic rays in my laptop.
But I still have a question… Why does it have to start at 3 AM in Europe ?
