First Screen, a tile map!

I’m getting slow, but here is the tilemap. Next is the tilemap with light, and it has to be before the next 4 hours!

Progress after 8 hours

Yes, it's small. Who needs to see this in fullscreen!?

Working on lights

There are so many “2D maps with light” posts that I am beginning to think that I am out of my league. Everyone seems to know how to do it!

I have been using the last few hours to try and implement this :

http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php?title=Digital_field_of_view_implementation

I never played with lightning in a tiled game, despite having made a lot of tile based games, so I picked this implementation. It seems to work :

Progress after 4 hours

Not bad for a couple of hours... I think?

The game will be graphical, using XNA, but console is always better when trying to understand an algorithm IMHO. Next post should have it with some gfx tiles in a non-console mode.

Edit : I should have removed the scrollbar from that shoot

So I’ll be joining…

Fourth (or fifth?) compo for me, I think the first was the 6th, and it was the one that I worked the most to finish. I tried to work as much in the other compo, but it always felt through.

So here I am, on my fourth, or maybe fifth, Ludum Dare. I should swear to finish it, but no coders can ever swear to finish a piece of code…

For the record, I’m using XNA 4.o/VSExpress 10, New Project -> Window Game.

Something bad is looming…

The more I code that game, the more it feels like freaking Boulder Dash…

If I can’t break from that mold, I will abandon it (and this Ludum at the same time). I really don’t like where that game is going… I shouldn’t have used the BD graphics as place holder, apparently they have influenced the concept more that I would like.

Here is a proverbial screen :

I never realized how much the XNA framework screwed with tansparency when rotating before I took this screenshot…

First screen, catchy name (I think)

I think that I got the name for my game, which is really the concept behind it as well…

Announcing Last Minute Miner!

Here is the first screen :

I’ve been using Boulder Dash’s tiles, and while replacing them I realized that my tile making talents are only good at 16×16, so the game will have 16×16 tiles doubled (or even tripled) in size. I’ll call it a “retro look”!

And no, I am not making Boulder Dash… I did to much of that in my life…

My last Ludum Dare…

… was at a time before I got kids, a house and debts :) I can’t find my entry, but I remember playing Bathroom Teacher, so it was on or before Ludum Dare #2!

I never finished my entry, which was about sheeps, wolfs, boats with cannons and tetris blocks, hopefully I can finish this one! At least this time I can blame the kids if I don’t finish :)

EDIT : Blah, I forgot the tech : XNA 3.1, and my template is “File -> New project…-> Window Game”. Thats basically it.

Grasping at straws

I can’t get a stupid concept of blowing up suicide bombers out of my head. I’m not even racist (or American), but damn is it hard to get aways from certain clichées when one thinks of suicide bombers. So I have no screenshots until I find another concept, because my game even offends myself as it is :)

Plus, it would appear that a game of Battlelore was planned for me tonight, so I’ll have really not much time to make something cool..

Doing this all wrong

This is my second entry, the first one being in the LD 2 or 3 maybe… Anyway it was called Wolf’n'Granny and I don’t even remember what the theme was (I think it was about tetris pieces, otherwise I am not sure why I had some in the game)

I’m 12 hours late, but to my defense, I was sleeping, and this is the week before Christmas, so I am not sure that my girlfriend will be as understanding as she was at my first Ludum, which was before the house and the kids…

I’ll post a screen later, here’s hoping that Blitzmax with a png loader is acceptable for the compo… (I have kind of a hard time navigating that site, not finding the forums and stuff)
