Finished my game. It’s by far the worst I’ve done for LD ever, but whatever. I finished it so I’ll publish it too!
The idea of the game is that you pushed too far to get to the top of a mountain and got caught in a snow storm, alone
, and need to get down. Altough I really like that idea, the execution of that idea left a lot to be desired and I’m not happy at all with the result. But with christmas so close and real life getting into way, I calculated that I used only 8 hours on this game total, so there’s not much to expect. I’m happy with what I managed to do in that time.
The plan was originally have branching conversations, and you’d have to work out how to get down the mountain by trying to get help from the walkie talkie etc. And I would’ve liked to make the thermal meter into a proper mechaning, where you would have to manage your body temperature by different means, whereas now it’s just a timer. But anyway, it’s done!
Got a lot done today, yay! It’s a shame that none of the things are in any way related to my game…
Oh well, there’s always tomorrow. Now off to sleep!
First screenshot of the game. You’re a guy stuck in a snowstorm. I’m trying to do this really quick this time since I have lots of non-LD things to take care of too. No levels, no complex mechanics, just something really simple. It’s a great challenge too to keep everything minimalistic, but still do something that isn’t completely void of value.
Here we go again, greetings LD22! My LD21 game would’ve fitted this theme perfectly too so I was hoping for something a bit different. But I think I got an idea now. I’m probably taking it pretty easy this time and just doing a short game.
Anyway, be creative everyone and have fun!
Hi,
Just wanted to mention that I finished and published a bigger version of Pvt Littledude vs Robot Armada, a game I did originally for Mini Ludum Dare 28 (and got #1 for Fun, yay!). It includes more levels, better balanced gameplay, infinity mode, achievements, lots of original music, etc. etc. So now it’s even more fun! (But not apparently enough, since I failed to get a Flash sponsorship, but whatever.
)
So, here it is:

I have a game, that looks like a game.
But the game, inside the game, sucks.
I have to go deeper.
I have a hard time finding proper game rules and elements for this, but at least I have a full framework done for now. I was too optimistic whe I started to implement this with a halfassed idea, but it’s too late to turn back now. This is definitely turning out to be a turd this time, but whatever, I’ll still try to finish it.
Here’s a new screenshot:
Ok LD21, I’m up and ready to go! Escape it is. No idea what to do, need to think.
I’m in for LD21! I’ll stick to doing Flash games, just because it’s fast and easy to distribute. Not that I enjoy coding ActionScript much, but whatever.
Seems I got #1 in Fun in MiniLD28, yay! Thanks for voting!
If anyone still cares, the game is playable here. I’ve been doing a bigger, more complete version of that for the past two weeks too, but more on that later.
Completed! Didn’t have the energy to do the achievements anymore. But I’m still pretty happy with my game.
Entry here.
See ya, I’m off to sleep!
I’m pretty much done. The game even has a name now, “Pvt. Littledude vs Robot Armada”.
The game is fully playable and completable and suprisingly fun. In fact, it turned out so well that I’m still thinking of adding some kind of an achievement system into it at the last minute. We’ll see if I have the energy, I’m pretty dead for the day already though.
Here’s a new screenshot, not much visual changes since last time:
Getting tired, have been working on this since morning (It’s 9:30pm here). I don’t think I can do much anymore today, but at least I’ve got the basic framework there and most of the gameplay elements too. So I’d call it a semi-success. Tomorrow is all about adding graphics, sounds and polishing it up.
Screenshot (not much to look at currently though
):
This MiniLD hits a good weekend, so I’m planning on doing something this time. And somehow this seems a bit more relaxed than the big LD lately, not too many people to actually follow what others are doing.
Generally my LD:s have been painful because I’ve always tried to think of something too out of the box with the theme and in the end run out of time to actually implement the cool parts. So this time I’ll just do a really simple desing without much innovation in it. I’m thinking of some kind of a Robotron/Tower defence combo/clone with lot’s of blood and guts. One screen, player war dude vs. increasing amount of enemy war dudes, just basic stuff. But hopefully get it done to the level where it’s actually fun.
My self imposed schedule:
Day 1 (sat): Setup project, implement rules, objects, controls
Day 2 (sun): Do graphics, sounds and effects
Argh, I just don’t have the motivation to finish this time. I just haven’t found the gameplay idea that I would want (and could) to do in this timeframe. This is the first time I’ve not finished. (3 out of 3 entries finished before this so I guess I don’t have to feel that bad)
Islands. Feeling very uninspired. It would be so easy to make a clone of any game that features islands and there’s plenty. I guess I could do some kind of a joke game this time since I have some ideas for that and the blog is already full of all kind of “actual/physical” islands… I don’t want to go anywhere near those. I wish we could pick some much more esoteric themes. Pretentious art game would’ve rocked, maybe I’ll do that then. With islands. Right…
Done! I should probably polish it a lot more since there’s a few hours left, but I don’t have the energy.
See the finished entry here. Pretty happy with it, even though reactions from all testers were uniformly “boring” and “annoying to get stuck in the tree pixels”.
Thanks all, it was fun to finish another one.
And now, the best part… sleeeeep, aaahhhhh!
