    Dezzles (less than) Awesome Workstation

So this will be my setup for the LD, pretty pumped with less than 17 hours to go before kickoff!

I have NeiloGD sitting not too far from me, and why yes that is a bottle of my homebrew on the desk. NeiloGD says that it’s good…

I’m (for lack of a better term) in!

So I’ll be doing the Jam this time, very big plans for it… More to be announced about that later on!

Pumped to be entering, I’ll have NeiloGD coming around to my place for a few days and we’ll be working on a game. Should be awesome!

So, now for the nitty gritty stuff…

    Tools

    Language: c++
Libraries: Psybrus engine, and whatever is plugged into that
Editor: Visual Studio 2010 C++ Express
Graphics: I won’t be touching this stuff… More on that later
    Audio: See: Graphics

Long story short, I’m excited. Everyone should be! (I’m looking at you voxel)

    I’m not in…

So I’ve thought long and hard about this month’s Ludum Dare and it looks like I won’t be able to enter this time…

Between travelling and attending a birthday party it just looks like it won’t be happening, sorry to let everyone down…

    Oh who am I kidding… I’M IN!!!!

Gonna be using c++ and the Psybrus engine (hopefully) and my shiny new wacom tablet I got for GGJ for graphics and will hopefully pump something out! Realistically speaking I’m probably going to end up in the Jam (wasn’t lying about the birthday and travelling) so I’ll need the extra time!

    Mini LD 33

So it looks like I’m manning up and entering the mini LD this month. Just gonna insert my doodle here and see how I go. I can’t really start until Sunday but I’ll see what can get done. I may have about 6 hours to put in to the game on Sunday, but I’ll try to sketch some more graphics by then so that I don’t need to throw them together.

For the mini I’m going to give flash a go. Hopefully it won’t go too badly. The sketch that you can see in this post is less than wonderful, but I’m no artist… It was drawn using GIMP and my Wacom tablet (to which I still need quite an amount of practice). The idea is basically just a runner where the player has to jump, duck, defend and attack as their actions to continue moving along.

    Last minute “I’m In”

Okay, so I meant to do this a little while ago, but I’m most definitely in!

I’ll be developing in c++ using a (very small) framework available http://eternallydisputed.com/site/index.php?page=downloads&type=entry&id=ludum_dare%2Fdownload

My choice of libraries will be entirely dependant on the theme, but will be a toss up between SFML and Irrlicht depending on what I want. Also I’ve set myself a schedule to try to stick to because I’m horrible at keeping track of my time. If you for some reason want a look, here it is https://docs.google.com/a/dezzles.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoJxrjDhQdyKdGZ6ZE5BdFJwUXR1WHhsUGFvYmxtbFE&hl=en_US#gid=0 it should hopefully keep me going.

    All the best, Dezzles

    Ludum Dare 19 – Discovery
    Saturday 1.12PM (72 hours remaining)
Well the Ludum Dare has kicked off for the weekend and the theme is discovery, I’m not entirely sure what that means for my game. Discovery can mean so many different things, are you discovering an ancient civilization, the limits of the human body or mind, discovering your past, or discovering what happened to your sandwich. Choosing one interpretation for the theme is certainly going to be difficult, so I’ll have to get some thinking done. I’m starting to flesh out one idea, but I’m not sure how it’s going to go. For now, I’m going to go and grab me some lunch before starting the game plan. This Ludum Dare I’m entering the JAM as opposed to the proper competition, in part because of the extra time I’d like, in part because I want to spend some time building a really good game, and it means that I can call on the rest of Eternally Disputed for ideas or in game assets (I’m looking at you Haminatrix). Wish me luck and I’ll start getting the builds going after lunch.

    Almost there…

So with Ludum Dare just around the corner, I’m running out of time to get my (new) framework finished by the weekend. Still haven’t decided whether I’m going for the JAM or normal Ludum Dare, will probably be based on how well I go with coding this weekend and whether I feel like I need more time. Also whether my framework is complete and whether I have a team for the JAM by then or not… None the less, this is what I have so far. With any luck, I’ll get Cruise Control to automatically be doing builds for me throughout the weekend as I make changes and possibly uploading them to my website as I go.

    Languages: c++, XML

Libraries: Irrlicht, Newton Game Dynamics (probably)

    Tools: Visual Studio 2010

Graphics: MS Paint, gimp, Blender 3D

    Sound: sfxr

    Version control: SVN

    Automatic Building: Cruise Control .NET

Framework: The one I’ve been building the last couple of months (not the same one I used for LD18)

Ludum Dare 18 Compo ends in 14 hours, 12 minutes, 26 seconds
Okay so I’ve got less than 15 hours left to get this done and I’m sure about half of that will be slept sleeping tomorrow morning but I at least have the enemies spawning now and following various paths and such. I’m pretty happy with how it’s going now. This is the latest screenshot.

First image from my game is up and available! Enemies will attempt to make it from the bottom left door to the top right one! Next I need to put in the code to have an enemy move from one to aImagenother!

Okay so I’ve been working pretty hard away at the program all day today and I don’t really seem to be getting anywhere, but 1 day, 17 hours, 11 minutes, 34 seconds left according to the Ludum Dare site. I’ll give some updates about what they gameplay will be like once I have a few screenshots up. I will say this though, there will be a level editor available for it.

    Finally getting there

Okay, so after having a bite to eat, and spending way too much time trying to decide what I’m going to do I have come up with an idea. I’m writing up a little console app to test out some of the parts of it, but it should work fine. Will post something more up once I have a clue. Also, I’ve nearly finished writing up my framework.

Oh dare God! I’m going to die…

Okay, so thanks to an inconvenient election today (thank you miss Gillard) I’m now only just setup for Ludum Dare. Dual screening for the first time with an LG E2350V and an LG E2250V and I have to say that they are a sexy, sexy set of displays. But aside from that, I didn’t have a chance to upload my framework so I shall have to start that one from scratch. We’ll see how I’m doing in an hour or two, I’ve rewritten my framework a couple of times over the last year or two so I figure it can’t be too hard. Still no idea on the theme

    Declaration of Frameworkness

So I’ll be using a framework that i’m just kinda hacking together a little bit this week. Nothing particularly flashy, just handling my state system and an entity/component system. It’ll have boost running on it, but at the moment it’s still in the works. I’ll (hopefully) have it available on Friday.

Go Go my first Ludum Dare!
