Rad vs Blae – Feedbakcs
Yesterday evening was a big time for Rad vs Blae. Jellycakes streamed himself playing the game and at last 10 people joined and played together.
It was big fun, the server was running smooth and the feedback about the game was really positive. I can still optimize by A LOT packets size and some client side optimization too.
I’m working on something bigger =)
Thanks everyone for the support. I really appreciate it
Making a video for the compilation project – Need help
Hey, as you may know my game is a multiplayer game and making a 10 second video playing alone is not so much fun ![]()
If someone want to enter in the server here is the link of my entry. When we are at last in 4 I start recording.
Thanks everyone who wants to help me =)
making a multiplayer game – The problem on voting
Like everyone else now I have to vote other games, some games are very fantastic. Good job everyone =)
A normal developer just play other games and read comments of other people that commented your game.
And here is the problem. I can not only play other games, I have to play my game too, because if someone want to play and no one is playing he can not test the game and vote!
So, I’m alt-tabbing every second when my game… (wait.. someone just entered in the game)… ok back, what I wanted to say? Ah yes, so I’m alt-tabbing and watching if someone want to play my game and lets play together and chat a little with him.
This is very stressful, I have something like 30hours of developing and 60 hours of playing my game! haha
Playing and chatting with other people that have to review my game is very fun. I’m becoming a maser in my game, so I have to slow down a bit my skill and let him win sometimes.
Then there are some oddities. There are some people that log-in, play something like 20 second, I kill them and… they log out and vote. Ofc I don’t know what they vote, but what you can understand about a game in 20 second of playing? Log-in another time, I promise you I won’t kill you! T_T
my game is a easy multiplayer game made in DART (lang) using websocket.
Here is the link if someone want to play =) http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=8548
Making a multiplayer game in 48h?
This time my entry was very interesting. This was my first time working on HML5 (Dart) but, the most impressing for me was working on a network system from… scratch.
I had nothing ready for make a multiplayer game, just websocket. I have no theory on how a multiplayer game is made so… I developed this game by instinct.
So… yeah, I don’t know what I have developed. The game should work, it’s multiplayer and MAYBE the server doesn’t crash when I go to sleep ![]()
If someone want to try it here it is: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=8548
I go to sleep now, please don’t make the server crash
Good work everyone!
Compo – Rad vs Blae
Hi, my game is near to be completed.
This year I have developed a multiplayer game in DART. It has all rules of a normal Capture the flag. nothing special. This was my first attempt in creating a multiplayer game and… wow, it was a lot of fun!
But I need you, can you help me please? I have to test something and I need some players in the server. Please give this link
http://ld26.getfun.it/
to a friend and lets’ play.
WARNING: unfortunately the game works only with CHROME.
Commands:
WASD move or arrows
Space Bar shoot.
If we can get in and be more then 10 people without the server crash… wow… it will be a success.
The game is not completed, I know there are some bugs and will fix it in 5-6 hours =)
Thank you guys, I will wait you in game!
Compo – I’m in. First time alone :-(
Hi everyone!
First time in the compo and the graphic is going to be laughable. I’m very lucky that this year Minimalism won, so I have an excuse to be “minimal” in the art!
So, I’m going to make a multiplayer game in HTML5, or better, I will use DART and compile it in JavaScript.
This is my first HTML5 game I’m going to made, so… I have a question.
How do you disable default browser functions?
I have a canvas, but if I double click on it, chrome will select the page. If I click spacebar chrome will go on the bottom. Any idea? Thank you =D
Jam – Dr. Villano
Hello, this is my first blog post during #LD 25. We had a lot of rush and not time for reading the blog or post something. Sorry ![]()
The game is finished! It’s a classic game, nothing revolutionary but I think very fun to play. We have finished the game yesterday and today I have added a global score board (!!) and added more fun!

The game is: Destroy everything before they kill you! Very simple with some humor like Goats.
There isn’t to say so much about the game, just try it and have fun!
SERVER
This was my first time in trying to make an online score board and I don’t know how but it works! I have used XML-RPC and I managed to compile it under Debian and Windows. So the server is running on my little Raspberry PI and the game on your machine Windows.
This is the server, where all your scores are located
We are really happy on how the game turned out. Some screenshots here:
You can download the game from here
Jam – We are in!
Hello, this is our second Ludum Dare =)
It’s me, Davide Moriello - Developer
Daniel Hafner - Artist
This time we are going to make the game in 48h because we don’t have time to work on it on Monday. It will be a easy easy game but with some fun features I hope.
I’m a bit excited, as always. During LD #24 we made TreeVolve. It was a pretty and stupid game, but it took me a lot of time to code the basics ( now we are porting a enchanted version on Android ).
Also, I hope so much that End of the World wins, I have a pretty idea for this =D
So, hoping I learnt something about my old mistakes. Happy Ludum dare.
Oh, and Happy coding Marathon, I’m going to sleep now and wake up at 2:50 am for start coding!
TreeVolve Update #3

We are still working hard on Treevolve, but we have still a lot of work to be done for a full release. Our aim is to release the beta this Monday (22. October). This beta will contain only the first level and some features blocked. We don’t want to spoil you all the game
AI
As you may know in the game you have to defend your Helpers. They are your friends and are crucial to get more points. In some level with the old AI they were not working well, too many on one resource node and sometimes they didn’t know what to do and went trough each other too much, so in the last days I decided to rewrite it from scratch.
Now, making an example for the first level (in every level they have a different objective), they go 3 by 3 gathering on one node, if no node is free they wait at home and run when it is their turn.
I was stress testing the new code (spawning dozen of Helpers) and it was so fun to watch that I decided to make a video.
Video Link click
ALERT:This is only a stress test, not really a game mechanic
Skill tree
This is a feature we still haven’t announced. We will have a skill tree! On every finished stage you get some points to spend to raise your skill or unlock some new skills.

This is only an example
Comic and story

We have finished discussing the first stage of the story, the full story with a great ending.
Kristian is helping us with drawing a comic. I can tell you, it’s a massive work from him and it’s coming out very good. A big thanks to Kristian for the help!
Social network
We have created the official pages of GetFun on Google+, Twitter and Facebook. If we get 100+ likes/+1/followers we will release the first little comic! So share it to help us!
Thanks everyone for the great support you are giving us.
GetFun to all!
TreeVolve update #2

Ten days ago we started working on the porting of TreeVolve for android smartphones and we are still working very hard to make a game we would like to play for hours. In the last article I promised to show you some new things (like the first boss!) and finally I have some free time to show you something.
New start menu
Daniel have rebuild from scratch the graphic of our main menu, now it’s more polished, professional and dynamic. We wanted to give the player a good impression starting from the first screen.
Video
The map
The map and the level you have to discover are still secrets, but I can show you the full color graphic of it.

The map where you can choose the level
The map you see here will change during the time. In every level you have to do some goals for unlock the next level and it will change the map.
Bosses
Every map will have some unique mobs, with special attacks and unique bosses. Kill a boss will not be easy, you have to be fast and think about it. Bosses will not only be fun to attack, but it will be a challenge!

The first boss you will encounter in TreeVolve
I hope you liked this little update and continue follow us. We still don’t have a official twitter/facebook/google+ page, but if you want you can follow me (The developer) on Tiwtter @davidemo89
October Challenge we are in with TreeVolve
Post Mortem

The game TreeVolve was a big success for us, the LD#24 Jam went so good and we are so happy. Thank you so much everyone! #13 Graphic, Daniel was so happy and now is 100 times more motivated about making more levels and better graphic.
The game at release had some problems, it was short, no end game, too easy, too repetitive, some game breaking bugs, but yeah, we made #79 Overall and the next one will be a huge improvement.
Feedbacks
We get a lot of feedback about treevolve, we have read every word you told us and I’m developing hard for make it better and better. The big feedback was “port it to smartphone!”.
As you know I developed the game in C++ with the help of Allegro for the rendering part and I have only an Android smartphone. Porting the game on android is a big work, I have to write everything again in Java, change the main, change the rendering functions, change how sounds is handled and a lot more but…
October Challenge 2012
… we will not give up, in the last4 days I have worked on making this port and the porting 1:1 from Windows to Android is working perfectly on every type of screen and resolution.

Test with a big screen (10”), but it’s working on very small screen too
As you can see from the photo everything is working great, sound, GUI, touch and so on… but this is only a 1:1 port, we are working for give you a lot lot more fun! Daniel have designed from scratch the GUI from making a lot more confortable for touch screen and not in the center of the screen like it is now.
The big problem: Repetitive
Yes, this is a big problem, we have to find a solution for make the game fun during the time and not only the first 5 minutes.
We have designed something new for give you more fun: (Some secret sketch’s, but psss, don’t tell it to Daniel I showed you)
- (1) Map select.
Yes! There will be more levels and with a fun story line to follow. What is all this water? Maybe you can stop the water fro unblock new levels
To design there will be 5 new maps with different goals and scenery. - (2)Hey, why I have to collect all these branches?
- (3)A helper is swimming? So much water .
TL;DR: New scene, new goals, story, new levels, new monsters, scores!, share with friends…
Oh, I forgot to tell you about bosses! Nah, another day
There is a lot more to tell you (What about the evolving tree? What about helpers? Why I have to do all these stuff?) but I will tell you more another day =)
Testing
When the alpha is ready we will need some android beta testers for help us test it on different smartphones. Follow me on twitter @davidemo89 for contact me when the alpha is ready for help us a little =) Everyone helping us will have a no banner copy of the game for free.
PS: I will tell you when the alpha is ready and when we need some testers.
So, you made it till here, sorry for all the grammar errors, if you found some contact me, I’m happy and trying to improve my English skills.
Yes, we did it!
Finally our jam is over after.
55 hours of working and 6 of sleep , I’m exhausted but was really fun. We had to take out some features from the game because were buggy / unsubtle but… the game still has some bugs that I want to fix tomorrow.
We wanted to make this game epic but the time was soo fast and some bugs here and out.
I’m mhm… I’m happy about the game, I wanted really to finish it. Some cool features and fluff was in but I had to remove for release it soon as possible, so the game is nothing special but I think you can have fun for some minuts time.

You can try the game here and tell me what you think =)
I developed the game in C++ with the help of the library Allegro5 and some basic stuff ready coded by me some days ago (loop logistic, separated render thread, objects management)
Update #3 finaly our game have a name!
Second day of developing and finaly we have a name. Watch the screenshot =)
This is the menu, it will have animated background taken from the level.
We are live too on youtube, Daniel (the graphic guy) is making the in game UI, enemies and tree helpers characters. Watch him working =D
Tiny World, magic world.
First basics for create a game!
Finaly I added my test in the warmup Entry. You can download it here:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-23-warmup/?action=preview&uid=8548
This is a big quest for me, I’ve started studying C++ only 5 months ago. I’m attending the first class of Computer Science in Trento. Developing in C++ was my dream from ever and I have to learn so much!
I have to code a lot for make a playable game, a lot of basics are missing. But I think I’m near to make a great game with my friend (the graphicher), I’m so excited, I will work 24/24 in these days!
You can find my friend on Google+ also, he posted a lot of cool works.
Warmup update
Hallo,
it’s 5:05am here, I had a stupid problems with loading sounds in the game but now it’s fixed! YAY
A lot of code is ready for the JAM.
- Map generator from easy editable image
- Tiles moving for characters
- Moving
- button EXIT working
But I have to rebuild from scratch the collision system, I have make so many mistakes that is better start from zero.
I have prepared a “tech demo”. Music, character moving, basic gravity, basic map, special “collision” should work.
DOWNLOAD
PS: Please, I need to know if you can run this test. If you have some problems please report it to me
Yeah, not a lot but I hope to have a “game” ready for tomorrow.

Ludum Dare#23 Warmup
I’m working on a little platform game (or only menu, I have to see) for the warmup session. I have some problems with the collision matrix, I have to get rid of this in some hours.
By the way, I wil lenter the official Ludum Dare #23 in Jam, i will work with a friend of mine. He works with graphics so it should be cool to watch (I don’t know to play
)
A little screenshot for the warmup session, graphic made by me!

You can watch me live http://www.twitch.tv/davidemo89
New in LD and tools I will use
Hi everyone,
my name is Davide, I’m attending the first year of computer science in Trento (Italy) and I’m so excited to take part in my first Ludum Dare. For my first Ludum Dare I will enter in the jam competition, I need some help with the graphics, sound and so on, and I want to use some code I have prepared in these days.
A friend of mine will help me with the graphics, hence I will stay with him in Venice the 3 days of the competition.
The tools
The tools… yeah, I think I’m bit crazy about this. It would be a lot more easier to make the game with flash, unity or other game engine more user friendly but I like challenges and for some weeks now I’m learning this cool library in c++ for making games.
- Developing:
- Allegro 5
- C++
For instance I will develop the game in windows, but Allegro is compatible with windows, mac, linux, iOS. If I have time left I will try to release the game with Linux version also.
My friend, that will make the graphics for the game, will use:
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- Flash
What will the game speak about? We have no idea, I hope on a cool theme or waiting some suggestion if someone is reading this ![]()
By the way, the game will be 2D, maybe a classic plattform but with some different features. I like a lot the game Dustforce… so maybe we will stole some ideas here and there.
I will attend the warmup weekend, for test my tools I’m coding now and have some feedback from you.
Here my first adventure starts, I’m so excited and I hope I will not fail.
See you in my next post
