Night one over.

I spent most of the night messing with art and coming up with ideas. I think I have something going, but I’m going to sleep on it.

Here’s what I’ve got so far

Oh yeah, I’m coding from the recliner.

Less than 10 Minutes to go, and I’m in!

My sure to be mind bogglingly amazical entry will be carefully hand crafted bit by bit in Lua using the Moai SDK. (http://getmoai.com/)

I just it picked up a few days ago, but I’m sure it’ll be easy to build a complete game in no time flat without really knowing what I’m doing.. I mean, this really shouldn’t take more than an hour of my time, right?

PREPARE TO BE AMAZED! MWAAA HAHAHA!

Oh, and, I’m sure your game will be cool too. No, really, I mean it. You’re a good developer, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Victory will be mine!

Victory over my own inability to complete a Ludum Dare entry that is..
I intend to use Flash, possibly Flixel depending on the idea I come up with for the theme.
Other tools may or may not include Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Blender 3d.

Out of time

Well crap. I’ve run out of time. Only got a total of about 5 hours into my entry and don’t have much to show for it. I was working on a tomb exploration game, and got to the point where a little guy could run around a randomly generated map revealing rooms as he moved, but now I’m falling asleep in my chair and have no time tomorrow to work on it.

Oh well. I really hope that one of these days I’ll be able to dedicate more than a few hours to a Ludum Dare contest.
Just for the record, Flixel is truly awesome and there’s no way I would have gotten as far as I did without it in this amount of time.

Night 1 already over for me

I did some planning, got Flixel downloaded and a shell of a game running. Nothing to show yet, but I need to sleep on my idea, do some family stuff tomorrow and then pull an all-nighter.

I’ll be pressed for time, but I can feel it in me.. I shall prevail!

Anyone looking for some good music to get you in the 8-bit mood, be sure to check out Pterodatyl Squad. Most of it is in the Creative Commons too, so if you’re not planning on going commercial with your entry I think it should be ok to use.

My personal favorite album up there is “Ecospheric Escape” by Skip. Oh yeah, pure 8-bit joy :)

Enjoy!

Plan of attack.. and tea.

I haven’t used Flixel since the first beta, so we’ll see what I’m up against. I have a fairly solid plan for the game, with a few details to work out yet. It’s going to be a huge cavern exploration thing.

I don’t think it’s cheating per se, but I might use some algorithms I developed for an iPhone roguelike I’ve been working on. I don’t think it’s cheating because all of that code is in Objective-c and I’d be rewriting it in actionscript just for this compo.

Also, here’s a picture of the French press full of Lapsang Souchong tea that will get me through tonight’s coding:
