Cardboard Space Box
I ended up submitting my game yesterday as I started late, I only spent around 8 hours on it, but it works well with only a few bugs. In the year 3030, you are the last line of defence between Earth and some cardboard boxes. Defeat the swarm of 99 cardboard boxes to save Earth. Fail and Earth will be destroyed.

Kind Of, Sort Of Finished
I’ve submitted my compo entry, although not as much content as I wanted, I just started losing concentration. There’s still a little while so I might add some more stuff before the end, but probably not. You play a character from a video game who has somehow fallen into a different and confusing world. You must travel through the world in order to find your way back home. Collecting the hidden potatoes and visiting simplistic realms along the way.

There was supposed to be 12 mini-games and a cutscene type thing at the beginning, but I realized I suck at animation, and only managed 9 mini-games. There’s some nice music, but it lost a lot of quality as I had to lower the bitrate or it would be like 20mb. It’s quite polished and I made it hard to beat, it ended up being based off of Super Meat Boy, more than I would have liked, but it’s fun-ish to play. I feel a bit like I rushed today because I didn’t think I would get it done, and now have ran out of steam. Also I’m having a complete blank mind on what the 3 more levels should be.
This is my 3rd Ludum Dare and the last one before I turn 15. (I’m 15 in June)

Post Mortem
Overall, i think it went pretty well.
The game is complete, although it’s lacking a lot of features i planned, the music begins to grind on you after a while and the sound effects are simple. The art however is pretty good, and considering for the first 5-10 hours i had no idea at all and restarted 3 times. I think I did pretty well, I wanted to add more features to the boss battle, but that didn’t end up happening. The game can be found here. It’s quite hard to beat as you have to conserve and collect ammo. This is my second Ludum Dare, but i think my first one probably went better. You can play my first one here.
Progress…
I kind of had a bad start, i woke up much later than i planned to, and restarted the game three time with different ideas, I now have a solid idea and a kind of good, working game. I live streamed a lot of it here, and you can play it here.
These are the quickly made sprites, a lot of them are from the ideas for the game i had but then changed my mind…

[WIP] Space Storm

Title
Space Storm is an in development Space Strategy Game by me, I’m 14 and a wannabe game developer, constructive criticism please.
There is a changelog hosted off of tumblr.com you can find here http://spacestormblog.tumblr.com/

I have made a launcher which will automatically update and run the game. You can get it from here, https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63217995/Space%20Storm%20Launcher.jar
To play, first add at least one enemy and one ally ship, select the one you want to place with left click, place it with right click. Press Space to start, select one of your ships with left click, then right click tells it where to move, the game is won when either team has no ships left, the star wars-esque intro is for the story/campaign I’m planning on adding later!
Please post any bugs/errors that you find
Damned World
So, I’m 14 and I don’t really have a lot of time, I’m not sure if I’ll even get the game finished by the end of October, however, the development is going pretty well, the multi-player doesn’t work yet, but I might scrap that, I have saving and loading, an inventory and some crafting!
Here’s a link to anyone who wants to play the current version: Download
Also, to anyone interested here’s my development Twitter
I am open to any suggestions for items and mobs, also the character sprites are not mine and just place holder, the rest are done by me.
Infected Cell – Post Mortem
Infected Cell is my first LD, i have previously entered 2 MLDs, and have gathered it is expected to do a Post Mortem. The game is a basic Shoot em’ Up, in which you play as a cell trying to help apes evolve into humans. You can buy a few upgrades with DNA collected from killed enemies.
Summary
I stayed up until the theme was announced, laid down some base code for rendering and went to bed a hour or so after the theme was announced. I set alarm and woke up early, 7-8 hours later, I was set and ready, I decided on a Binding Of Isaac, type Shoot em’ Up. I spent a long time with a black screen, a white square you controlled, blue square bullets and red square enemies. I then got to work on most of the art, I had already planned the entire game, so i drew everything I needed. I added the background and started on the bosses, I had the basic system with one boss after the next. I started work on new non-Boss mobs, then added Sound FX using sfxr, and made them flash when hit. I went to bed late and then couldn’t continue until late afternoon as I had family round. With only 7 hours left, I started work on some music, then menus and levels. Spent a lot of time fleshing it out into a full game, and then, submitted it.
Good
I finished it even though I spent only about 12-13 hours on it
The graphics and gameplay and fun
It’s a complete game with music and sound fx
Bad
The upgrade system is bad and hard too tell how much DNA you need
The AI, I said to myself I would get back to it, but never did
The music loop, it’s too short and a bit repetetive
Overall
A good first entry, a few bugs for Mac OS X, but overall good and constructive feedback. Pretty happy with how it turned out
Infected Cell Finished!
My Entry is finished, a shoot em’ up type game about inserting DNA into monkeys to transform them into humans. You are a Infected Cell sent back in time with human DNA and must fight the cells to implant Human DNA, whlist evolving yourself. Pretty happy with the result as i didn’t spent as much time as I would have liked to on this.
