Joining and Declaration

Posted by
Sunday, December 9th, 2012 1:55 am

I am hoping to participate in this LD.  I am considering doing something in 3D with XNA so I’ve prepared my simple box model stuff so I can use it if necessary.  I’m declaring it here for anyone else who may want a simple ‘BoxModel’ library for XNA.  Also include a simple model workshop to play with creating models.

Adventures In Tiny World

Posted by
Friday, April 20th, 2012 10:45 pm

Started my game adventures in tiny world.  You play Reginald the cat, and help him through the ‘Tiny World’.

The game is a platformer with tetris like pieces from the letters T, i, n, y.

Colonizer Doodle

Here’s my doodle for my mini-ld game, colonizer, the doodle shows very little about the game other than trade goods.  Originally I had some kind of tactical sailing warfare thing, which I promptly abandoned.

I started my game, basically, you’re a truck driver.  So far I have some basic truck physics using farseer and a bezier curve sprite road drawing system:

Proposed Schulze Voting

Posted by
Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 10:46 pm

Yesterday in the midst of the theme discussion I proposed using a new voting method to collect and rank theme preferences, the Schulze Method.  Today, I wrote a WordPress plugin to implement my idea with input from others on IRC.  I’d appreciate everyone’s testing/input!  http://billknye.com/ld/?page_id=2

Without registering / logging in, everyone is sharing the same user state on the voting preferences, just an FYI if your votes get changed.

North Korean Escape is done!

Posted by
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 12:36 pm

I’ve finished my game more or less.  Has all the basic things I wanted to get done, don’t have any more time for polish, silly real life.  It is a little bloody, ESRB might not be impressed.

Basic premise:  Stop the Best Koreans from escaping to Worst Korea.

Good luck everyone!

Heading to bed, progress so far

I’ve got enemies that die when you shoot them. Randomly colored enemy bodies and simple walking animation.  Also added spread when firing and increased spread when firing while moving.  There are arrows indicating people outside the field of view, there are tons of people at once for testing.

Progress with bad graphics!

I decided to use XNA as everyone that has linux doesn’t like mono, completely removing the point of using openTK for me.

I have some progress with my bad graphics, hooray progress.

Intent to participate

I’m planning on participating in this LD, I’ll be using my .Net game lib that is based on openTK.

It provides spritefont classes, batched sprite drawing, path finding, audio loading (wave, mp3, ogg), noise generation (perlin and simplex) and some other basic services.

You can download it with source here: http://billknye.com/foo/billknye.gamelib.zip

It feels very similar to XNA, to use it you just need to create a class then inherits from the Game base class and override the methods.

Good luck everyone!

All talk whistle game progress

So I have a really basic game, you can speed it up, make the cavern tighter, looser, more varied etc.  There’s a ghost drawn of your ‘ship’ of where the pitch is bringing you to.  There’s a frequency graph on the left, your selected frequency range is shown in blue.

All talk (or whistle) game thing

After some conversation in the IRC channel (go there if you aren’t already there), I’m working on a simple game where you fly through a cave and avoid blowing yourself up…. but you control your ‘ship’ by changing the frequency of your voice.  Really it’s just a pink block right now but it will be cooler,  I hope, pitch control proof of concept is complete, just need to make the whole game part, minor detail:

Choppa’, Run to thee is finished

Posted by
Sunday, May 1st, 2011 6:49 pm

I finished Choppa.  I wrote some music (poorly), made some sound effects (mostly poorly), and had one voice recording (can you guess what it is?)

You can view the entry here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-20/?action=preview&uid=1863

Thanks, good luck everyone!

Missiles from the Choppa’

Now I have missiles, it still checks for Fire( ) every frame so there are a whole pile of missiles launched with each click.  It really slows down the game when there are like 100 missiles going.

Choppa’ progress

I’ve got my mini-map working and added perlin noise generated terrain so it’s not so useless, still needs tweaking but I can move on.

Choppa’, Run to thee started

I started my LD entry, so far you can fly around on the randomly generated map.  I made some quick blends between the dirt and water, I probably won’t change them before the end of the LD.

Now I just need to add weapons, enemies etc…

I’m going to start, and finish!

I’m going to finish this LD, really, not like the last one or the last one where I couldn’t commit.

She says “I think your game is lame”

15: Mission Phosphorus Story

Posted by
Saturday, December 18th, 2010 2:39 pm

In the future, the human race has grown to a size that the Earth can no longer sustain.  They have built space based farms and started working towards livestock raising in space.  At present they have run into a critical shortage of certain organics, notably phosphorus.  Farious factions from Earth have begun sending bot explorers to planets and astroids trying to discover new sources of phosphorus.

Your task is to write the code that powers the distant discovery bots.  There is competition everywhere you go so you’ll not only have to worry about finding phosphorus, you’ll also have to defend yourself against other bots.
