OK, so here is the current state of my entry “The Butler Did It”.
So far I have the titular character, and couple of rooms you can walk between and that’s it.
The intention is to have a full house and grounds to explore, and the gameplay will be centered around you killing every member of the family without getting caught, kind of a cross between the 16bit Home Alone game, and Hitman.
I’m really bad at animating, so for now he just slides around, I’m going to put that off till tomorrow and just concentrate on the gameplay for now, i need to add items and interactive elements next.
Anyway, time for some food (which i’m not going to photograph, what is this, masterchef?), then back to it!
Man it sucks being in the UK sometimes. I can never be bothered to wait up for the theme announcement so when I get up on Saturday morning and find it out it always seems like everyone else has done loads!
I’ve been working for an hour or so now, although I have yet to write any code or draw anything, but for once I have a pretty solid plan going in.
More shall be revealed later…
I’ve cleared the whole weekend, i’ve got my tools in place, and i’m raring to go.
I just realised I hadn’t posted anything this time!
I really hope this time I will manage to make something more complete, but as per usual I will be using an incomplete untested code base and making it all up as I go along, which is entirely the wrong way to do it I know, but I just can’t help myself
There we go, it’s submitted, for what it’s worth:
I got pretty disheartened during day 2, as I could see that I wasn’t going to finish everything that I had hoped to put in, and then I had a nightmare when I realised it was completely broken in everything but chrome, so spent the last couple of hours fixing stupid mistakes I didn’t realise i’d made.
Still, I learned a lot, so I can really improve my code base, which will come in useful next time, and I suppose the aim of the exercise isn’t necessarily to finish a perfect game, but to just join in and have fun, so from that perspective, success!
Anyway, take a look, there’s very little to do, but poke around, look at some things, pick some things up, turn something on and off. Knock yourselves out
I just realised I hadn’t actually committed to LD22 yet, consider that rectified.
This will be my second LD48, I did a platform game last time, it turned out ok, but I spent far too long fussing over the graphics and nowhere near long enough getting content in. Hopefully with that lesson in mind this weekend I can come away with something much more complete.
I am super excited this time, i’ve made sure the entire weekend is cleared of any commitments, the cupboards are stocked with programming fuel, and everything on my computer is organised and ready to go, it’s the most organised i’ve been in years
