Greed ends in 2 days
January 11th, 2013 5:54 amSup. Have you played Greed, my entry for the last LD? It finished 4th on Innovation so it’s pretty cool I guess.
It’s a game that makes you feel like a villain. Like, really. By breaking blocks, you earn points, that you can keep for yourself or give to a charity. On the 13th ( in 2days! ), I’ll randomly pick someone, user or charity, and offer him 50$. Obviously, the more points you have, the more likely to be selected you are.
Currently the Unicef only has a little 20% chance of winning, the same as Nathan, the current top player. Have a thought for the little kiddos!
50$ can :
- supply medecine against worm infestation for 1500 children
- buy desks for a school in Malawi
- buy 50 lifesaving treatments against malaria
- give 15 children book for a school
And that’s just a few of the things that can be done! But of course, you can play for yourself and try to get the 50 bucks. That’s ok. You can even stay anonymous
Play here.
Also, you can enter the LUNCH TIME SUPADOPE CONTEST on Twitter, by sending me a drawing made on Greed with the blocks. The winner will receive 50pts to give to whoever he wants.

If I understand the math correctly, even if everyone chose the more noble route, UNICEF would have only a 50% chance to win, correct?
So with UNICEF sittinf around 20% we can assume that more than half the points gained are by people who have chosen to keep them all?
You misunderstood the math.
If everyone took the noble route unicef would have 100% of the points in existence and therefore a 100% chance to win.
However, unicef can only gains points at 50% of the rate per play that all other users can gain per play.
So if 50 people are noble and 50 greedy, and the average game is 4 points, unicef gets 50*4/2 = 100 points, and the set of all other users get 50*4 = 200 points.
So unicef would have a 33% chance to win in this scenario.
So… what happened? It’s 2 days after the 13th.
