Staraga – Day One Didn’t Go Well…

Day one is – for the most part, at least – over for Staraga. It was not a productive day.

I have the player’s ship in a Unity applet and it moves with the arrow keys. That’s about it. :(

Here is what I will (I mean it, I will do these) do tomorrow:

  • Enemies with movement and Galaga-style dive-bombing
  • Enemy and player death
  • Enemy wave spawning
  • Items
  • Player weapons

I’m hoping for the best tomorrow. I really am.

Regards,

- Henry

    Hey Henry,

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but I have noticed that you’ve made quite a few posts where you’re like “yeah I’m gonna do this cool thing!” but then the next post you make says “darn I failed.”

There’s some research that says you achieve your goals better if you didn’t announce them first. Here’s a really good video explaining why this is the case http://www.ted.com/talks/derek_sivers_keep_your_goals_to_yourself.html

Anyway, regardless of whether you decide to do that, good luck!

I realize that I’ve done that a lot, yeah. :(

What you haven’t seen is the things that I don’t tell people about that rarely even get started on. I actually get farther on what I do share as long as I keep up having things to share with others. It motivates me.

I actually lose interest in projects when I stop sharing about them since having that next screenshot or that next demo is a big push for me.

Besides, I haven’t failed yet; I’ve just gotten off to a slow start. It’s not over yet, not nearly. ;)

Yeah, makes sense. I know personally that not announcing my plans has historically been pretty successful, so I just wanted to point it out. good luck for tomorrow :)
