My Charity Game Jam entry : Glory, Death, Blood & Souls (aka GDBS)

Well, it’s done! No enough time to finish levels in the 48h limits but I’ll finish them anyway tomorrow. This is just a clone of a little japanese indie game (http://www.indiegames.com/2010/06/freeware_game_pick_hero_defeat.html), with a twist: 4 characters.

Each character has to fight one type of enemy:

    • The knight fights only the orcs – if the knight’s level is equal or superior to the orc’s level.
    • The rogue fights only the zombies – if the rogue’s level is equal or superior to the zombie’s level.
    • The necromancer fights only the graves – if the necromancer’s level is equal or superior to the graves’s level.
    • The wizard fights only the ghost – if the wizard’s level is equal or superior to the ghost’s level.

DL link >> https://www.box.com/s/ssovn84up6qm1chmnogk  (no HTML, flash, etc. just a good old .EXE file in a ZIP archive).

You have to use a keyboard to play:

    •  ARROWS = move
    • X = action
    • C = switch heroes
    • ENTER = restart game/level

Hey man, sweet game. I love the game play, sounds, and especially the graphics a lot. However, when I play the game I can’t get past the first level. I can kill the goblins with the Knight but I come up short on everyone else. What was the name of the Japanese Indie game you got your inspiration from? Really sweet game.

Thank you Zathalos! I’m certain you could beat the game (there is one level; I ‘ll create morelevels this week). I edited this post to a link where I discovered this game, “Hero! Defeat the Devil!”
You can download it here: https://www.box.com/s/rsbgktepjv45ab2x8od3 (the original website/link seems dead).

Yes! I finally beat the first level. It took me like an hour or so total to beat it. At first I didn’t like the game. I clicked on it ’cause the graphics were cool looking but after a few minutes I was left frustrated and confused. I called it a “stupid” game and went on.

After a few hours I was sitting bored at my desk and I kept thinking about the game. I thought “it can’t be that hard”. So i played it again and was happy that I completed the knight. After that, I tried a few more times but always came up short. That’s when I left my first post, thinking the game was unbeatable. Then today, I was thinking about the game again and remembered that I didn’t move the knight after I killed the boss, thus I found the missing piece. After about 10 more minutes I solved the puzzle and got the victory screen.

This game is really great and fun. If you added onto it, I would totally play it more/buy it. I also thought it could use a few extra features like: faster character movement, a limited undo button, and possibly a help/hint text.

Overall, this game is one of the most intriguing I’ve played. It does borrow from that other game but I feel the changes you’ve made make it stand on its own. Great job man.

Thank you a lot about your feedback ^^
I’m working on new levels since sunday; when I’ll finish the 5th new level (3 are OK), I’ll update the game.
I have already fasten the character movement, and the volume/sfx can be mute.
But I’m not sure I’m capable of doing a undo feature :/
And yes a help/tutorial screen could be very useful: I didn’t have the time during the gamejam that’s why this element is missing ;)
