    CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! I think?

    Posted by

Hello guys, it Mohammad again, and this time I came back to do the October challenge. Well…Sorta wanted to do it. Christ  I don’t think i’ll get it done being locked in a classroom for 6 hours from Monday to Friday. But, since I had a project I was doing I decided to put it out of its misery. YES! Bells© The video editing program. But that’s not all, I remember clearly how I said i’ll do it in GameMaker right? Well… That dropped a SH** HARD! So instead i’ll be pissing myself off with stress and please you guys by learning C++ Visual. Yes, you heard me, the same one they used to make Sony Vegas Pro© and Adobe After Effects©. I looked into them a few weeks ago, and I thought Sony Vegas Pro© isn’t too hard but ADOBE WILL BE A F*** CHALLENGE. So its good to be back, and its good to learn another scripting language, so all in all it’ll be a good month for me and you guys.

The comments are open FOR GOOD and i’ll be looking at each and every comment. You guys are a valuable resource for anything I need and I can always trust your guys opinion. So if your reading this post do me a favor and put a comment for me to review and look at. It’ll mean alot. :)

As always, Mohammad Mohammad of Mohammadgames signing off.

Guys, i’m killing myself here, so please don’t b**** about this being a game or not.
I know the answer, its not. You guys get too technical about what can and can’t be up on here.
The goal is not to make a game. The goal this October is to earn a dollar. And that’s what i’m f***ing doing.
If you guys are like “Who the hell is bothering you Mohammad?”
      Here’s the argument: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/09/01/bells-the-video-editing-program/

Man! You’re back! I think then you need to learn Javascript and HTML5. They are sooo good for games!! And better, work in most plataforms.

I personaly think than C++, well, C++ eh, C++ IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND COMPLETE LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD! But, for image and video processing, no language is easy, because you need another thing, MATH!
With math you go fast. Another thing: Learn to make prototypes. Never try to make a final product in the first attempt.

      P.S.: Do you use linux?

      Felipe Tavares(Brazil).

        Phew!
Slow down buddy! Keyboard buttons are flying all over the place!
Anyway, lets get down to business. First no, I use windows 7, not Linux. :(
Second, Math…Well… since my first 3-d game, I’ve learned about the X, the Y, and most importantly, THE Z! *Chorus*. I know nothing about C++ or C++ Visual, but I guess now is the time to learn eh? Also, to set up my website, I will need java (I know a little, and when I mean a little, I mean version 1.1. YES, I know, very sad.) And I’ve never seen HTML5 script although I’ve heard of it. Mainly because most of the sites are made with JavaScript, which, again, I know oh so little.
As for math, much of the things i’ll be learning are about X,Y,And Z. I’ll have to experiment with points, placement of camera, model values and drawling them, AND MUCH MUCH MORE.
        Thanks for your thoughts.

    3. Jezzamon says:

I hope this doesn’t come off as rude but it will be impossible for you make that. I’m sorry. Really, No single person would be able to do it, even if they had studied in university for ages, or had tonnes of career experience. Especially seeing as you’re not even close to finishing school, it really isn’t going to happen. :C

Sorry to break it to you, but it has to be said. That doesn’t mean that you have to give up on programming or anything, but maybe try some smaller projects.

I mean, think about a program that just compiles a bunch of .jpg images into a .gif file, just to get an idea of the process involved in making a video-editing program. There’s a lot of things you have to handle… determining the palette based on the most common colours, dithering to create the tones in between, as well as which dithering methods are most effective, the actual structure of both the .jpg and .gif images, and then how the program will interface with the user and the computer, and that’s without even touching graphics, or anything with x and y coordinates. :D

So yeah. Maybe stick to smaller things. Master the easier stuff before moving on. Making a video editing program is probably harder than programming minecraft, and probably took more people more hours to do, just to put things in perspective.

Anyways good luck with whatever you end up doing! :D

      • mohammad says:

Did Armstrong give up to visit the moon? He would’ve DIED, but he went with it anyway. When Notch quit his job, Minecraft may have became more of a failure than a success but he went with it anyway. When soldiers go out to war they know that may die or win. If anything, your words of discourage don’t hurt me at all. I know many kids who don’t know what a CPU means or whats the difference between ROM and RAM and they say video games are made with fancy looking suits that plug-into your brain. Me, on the other hand, know the calculations of X Y and Z, Know how to draw up vertices by command, can draw that vertices in four different Point-lists, and can rotate that model freely with no problem. Tell me my good man, WHO THE F*** IS GOING TO PAY 20 DOLLARS TO GET A FEW IMAGES INTO A .GIF? I’m sure nobody. But tell me, who is willing to pay millions of dollars for a s***ty video editor for YouTube Poops like Sony Vegas? Don’t tell me, Trillions. So, in short, this is where the money is, and you’d have to be a moron not to jump in that pile. NO MATTER WHAT. Thanks for your thoughts.

        • Jezzamon says:

The gif compiler was just an example. It’s a really simple program, and yet, do you think you’re capable of doing it? And an video-editor should be able to do much more complicated things than that.

Also, both Notch and Neil Armstrong both spent a lot of time studying and preparing before they made their achievements, neither of them did it when they were 12.

So, if you want, don’t give up, but put it on the side for maybe 10 years. Then have a look at it.

Also, I was trying to say that ‘knowing about x, y and z’ is really only a very small and trivial element of a video ‘editor’.

Anyways, you can do what you want, I was just trying to help you save time. Try it, and learn whatever lessons for yourself
          :P

        • Jezzamon says:

Oh yeah, I’ll just add that Sony Vegas would’ve been made by a team of adults, who have spent many years studying and improving their abilty to do work, who were each putting in as much effort as you can.

    4. mindbrk; says:

      You’ll probably fail…but, you’ll atleast learn something I guess.
Oh, and if I were you, I would first start by learning how video files work ;)

      Good luck beating Adobe :D

      • mohammad says:

Adobe is out of my game with its teconolgy.
        Sony Vegas is kids play.

      • mohammad says:

What i’m going to do is draw the video as a background, and sprites and 3-D models can just be loaded up onto there. The only problem is…how?

        • FelipeTavares says:

          1. Decode each frame of the video in a image. (Including color theme conversion and compression systems)
          2. Create a complete GUI with flexible widgets system (and a fast, shared memory, system to show video frames)
          3. Create audio decoder, player and syncronizer.
          4. Customizable system (and plugin system) to implement effects with a flexible way to change number of frames affecteds, type of change in each frame and a lot of more things then you need to make in a plugin system. You will need to make plugins that can acces the GPU!
          5. Create a fast timeline syncronization with audio and video, video cutting tools, non-linear editing systems.
          6. Keyboard and mouse flexible support with GUI integration.
          7. Integrate 3d rendering system in the top of the frames. You will need OpenGL or DirectX.
          8. Make export system to render a video to a file.

          You can do that?

          • mohammad says:

            Yep.
Why hasn’t anyone been listing to this guy?
What I was going to do was declare the video as a variable, then load that variable as a background, then load sprites and stuff to it and edit it with a few plug-ins and path systems.

    5. mohammad says:

I am now learning javascript form Codecadmey to set up my website!

    6. Puzzlem00n says:

Oh, man, dude, you’re back! I’m really sorry I didn’t say hi earlier, I haven’t checked the site in a long time, like I said, I have school too, haha.

Like everyone says, you’re being a little cocky. Even if you can program all that stuff (and I believe you can) it’ll take longer than a month. But, hey, why not go ahead with it? The October Challenge game I’m making with my friend is pretty ambitious, too, and so far I’ve barely finished the design.

      • mohammad says:

Well, all I can say is, I’m sticking with Javascript, but i’m done with C++.
I’ll be learning python instead, because if Blender was made with it, heck, a video editor can be made too.
Also, I won’t need DirectX or anything because Blender can load anything without problems. So i’m assuming that Python can do the same because I won’t need DirectX until I have to render the video. All in all, this will be hard, Because along with the program, I need a publisher, have it lisenced, sponser it, AND make a teser trailer with it. All in all, it may take even more than a month, but hey, i’ll be making money either way. I’ll be selling it for 20 USD and 11 EURO if I can…

    7. mohammad says:

Ok, ive figured out what Adobe After Effects was made with, so now i’ll be using C++!
