Getting involved

I’m in too! First time. All goes well, this will be the first game I’ve ever actually finished, which is a very motivating thought. As a further motivator, I think follow Porter’s advice (from his excellent blog post on August 13th) and timelapse myself.

Decided to whip it up in good old Java seeing as I’m starting a job as a Java developer soon and I can never have too much practice!

IDE: Netbeans
Language: Java
Graphics: Paint.net
Library: Slick – discovered this through other blog posts and not yet tried it out. Looks good though!
Sound: Bfxr. Maybe I’ll knock a music loop out on my guitar depending on how the mood of my game develops.

Currently getting my head around Java webstart (EDIT: Oops! Set myself barking up the wrong tree. I am now more usefully working on getting it into an applet). Very excited. Good luck all! May your games be fun to make and play.

P.S. Seeing as it took me so long to work out how to insert a test image, I’m going to leave it in the post. Here’s a picture of how I feel right now (note the nervous optimism):

Hey, this might appear as a shameless way to draw attention to myself, but I’ve written up some tips as well that got pushed off the front page a few days ago. Here’s a link, I hope it helps you! Good luck.
