MiniLD – how about making it every week?

What do you think about making MiniLD every week instead of every month? There will be exception for weeks of regular LD and week after.

Of course no one is forcing to be in every MiniLD but for some people gamemaking contests, even without prize is the only thing that can actually motivate them for making game. And besides – more contests, more fun.

Or maybe other idea: How about letting community members (not only admins) to set up contests at will? After all nobody is forcing nobody to participate so it certainly won’t hurt, even if there will be, say 2-4 submissions.

“Community contests”, as I’d call them would differ from MiniLD in that timeframe and all rules regarding specific contest would be adjustable by person who makes it. I think it’ll bring much more life to LD community and perhaps new developers too.

By the way,  sorry for lousy English at times, but I’m not native English speaker and I am kinda tired (was up for last 36 hours), and it’s kinda adds up. Though spellchecker doesn’t underline me anything, there probably are grammar mistakes.

So what you think about idea presented in this post?

      Just IMO:
I can`t imagine myself entering LD every week, even every 2 weeks. It`s too often. In fact, MiniLD is set up by community members. 2-4 submissions is not in spirit. Remember it`s a competition, you can`t compete with 1 opponent. It will be the same as making games alone. And the phrase “nobody is forcing nobody to participate” will push away people from participating. If you want to make a contest, it can have nothing about LD. Just start your own somewhere, the result will be same. And your English is OK (IMO too :) )

Some people do create their own contests, for example the 0hgamejam was announced here, even though it was not associated with LD. We also have “Warm Ups” which have recently been occurring each month. These are like miniLDs in themselves.

All in all I feel there are plenty of game jams happening. If not here then elsewhere. In fact I would say there are more game jams happening than one person could possibly commit to.

Yeah, I know I’m new here, but even I think that sounds like a bad idea. It’s just overdoing it. Eventually, you’d end up having some competitions without any entries, because things will overlap all over the place. It’ll become a mess to maintain.

    4. I do a 1 hour game jam every day. Feel free to join in anytime. https://plus.google.com/104138221626061560232/posts
