Personal LD Warmup – Complete!

So an hour and a half ago I challenged myself to create the best thing I could in that time. After browsing for a theme, my friend suggested “Zombie Space 2D Side-Scroller.” So I was off.

I use Love2D as the tool of my trade, mainly because I have had the most experience with it.

Using Notepad++ as my editor I was off and within a couple of minutes had a crude space man (that I later ditched) drawn. I made him move around on the screen then added a basic tile-map drawing thingy and I was off to a good start.

After messing around with alternate menu-screens for 10 minutes I had wasted some time (which I could have put into the enemies).

I then added a camera, which followed the player and gave it some boundaries. And then my time was up.

I feel like I accomplished a lot in this one and  a half (and learnt a fare bit too) but did learn a few things.

-Only add what you need, don’t mess around with anything that isn’t a necessity

-Good~ish art is a must, because you would hate yourself later on and hate you game.

-Make you game with the smallest amount of features possible, then add random stuff until the time limit.

Inside my time limit, I didn’t have time to make any enemies, or any AI for them so I will leave that for tomorrow (and work on this game more!).

So I did kind of fail :( because I didn’t get what i wanted in time, but I say 30 more minutes and it would have had everything I wanted.

This had been my first ‘real’ game-jam of sorts that I have done something for, and just thought I should tell people how I went!

Timelapse and Source Code will be uploaded tomorrow after I get some rest
