Remember LD22 – Pick a better theme!
Those of you who were here last time around remember the struggle over “Kittens” – and the subsequent election of “Alone”. From what I heard, nobody really liked “Alone” much. So remember: democracy is a dangerous privilege, use it wisely! Don’t pick a theme you don’t want and consider all your choices carefully!
Some of us are discussing themes on the forum.
I made a comment the other day about how the voting process tends to eliminate the most colourful themes. (If a theme is much loved by some, it will be hated by others, who will knock it out of the race). So what we are left with are those themes that nobody feels strongly about one way or the other, which is the “design by committee” problem, a symptom endemic to democratic processes.
But before the voting stage begins, I expect we will have a preliminary stage where theme suggestions are roughly chopped down to a short list of about 50. Sosowski provided us with this stage the last time through a form for scoring themes +1, -1 or -10. I have recently made a suggestion to him for improving this, which I believe will provide us with better themes for April.
It would be funny if they picked “together” as a theme this year.
Thank you so much for this post. Without your wise guidance, I’m sure I would have voted for my least favorite themes.
