New Tool: Pickle (Pixel Editor)
December 13th, 2011 1:09 pmI’m working on a new pixel editor called Pickle.
Photoshop is great for most art tasks, but when working with pixel art I find it’s missing a few features I really need.
Pickle allows me to see live updating previews of animations, terrain tiles, or seamless tiles as I edit them.
Unfortunately it won’t be ready in time for this weekend’s comp. I’m shooting for a mid-January alpha release, and I’ll be looking for feedback from the game dev community to help me make it better.
If you’re interested in trying it out send me a tweet or follow @pickleEditor and I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
UPDATE:
The public alpha version is now available:

This is amazing bro. I’d love to test it out when you get it ready.
The seamless thing is a good idea. It’s a feature I yearn for in the graphics editor I currently use.
What would be great is if the magnified tile could be dragged, such that the image wraps and reveals the seams.
I don’t have a twitter account, but if I did, I would follow you for this.
digital_sorceress: That’s a great idea! I added it to the feature list.
WhoopiGoldberg: If you want, you can just send me an email (find the address here: http://www.PickleEditor.com), and I’ll add you to the release announcement.
Awesome! Can’t wait!
Oh and by the way: Your twitter-link is broken. it should be http:// instead of http//
Oops. Thanks.
Can’t wait for this to be released! Unfortunately, I’m addicted to the GIMP and know all the keyboard shortcuts, so it will be practically impossible to transition.
