Bob’s Escape – Game Completed!

Posted by
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 7:01 pm

Oh, hey. Didn’t see you there.

My submission for LudumDare 21 is ‘ Bob’s Escape ‘ and it took me <30 hours to make all assets and code. I am quite proud of this as it is my first game and I wanted to make a strange game with a twisted ending. Well, I hope you are all happy with it and well… Here it is:

Bob’s Escape!

Happy playing!

Timelapse of my work:

I’ll be posting more info later!

So, my dreams of making an horror adventure game for LD were crushed by my obligations with real life. I managed to get hold of about 20 hours for this compo, but it was not nearly enough.

I proceeded to do everything I could on the time elapsed, but the results were underwhelming.

I submited it, nonetheless, only so I could say that this time, unlike the last one, I didn’t completely gave up.

Also, for those who are interested, here’s the day 1 timelapse, showing some coding in processing, my photo editing skills and some other crap:

Done :-)

The game is not reaaallly finished. But its playable and has all its core features. Except…. for the music, the decals and more and better sound!

Could also use a bit more balancing. But I can do that in the next months :-)

Theme Rationalization

Posted by
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 6:55 pm

Only thing left to do.

Great. :D :D :D :D

Well, obviously, there’s the fear in the beginning. Your entire journey is based on that escape.

Then, you must escape that entire journey, as you are trying by moving through [and then the end happens].

So, yeah. I consider this theme RATIONALIZED.

Facebreak Escape finished!

It seems there are still problems with the server so I’ll put the game here and give the proper submission when the site is functional again.

Facebreak Escape is a game where prisoners are trying to escape a dungeon. You have to escape the prison by fighting against hordes of security guards with your allies and reach the freedom which lies ahead.

To reach the end you have to brawl with 11 waves of enemies, collect loafs of break to gain health and free your friends from cages haning from the roof.

You can move using arrows and pressing up your character will jump, use X to punch enemies and cages.

Download here!

Hope you enjoy the game!

The Blueprints have been filed

That does it for LD21. My entry, The Blueprints, is now history.  I feel good about it, aside from how bad the title screen looks in the thumbnails. Also  I wanted more than two levels, but creating these things takes time. Check it out here.

Finally! It has been fun and not great fun (at the same time).
My game is “done” and delivered. Don’t know if I’ll add levels and features to this game. Let’s see how will it turn out.

Meanwhile, I am “compiling” my timelapse into an avi. I’ll post in Youtube as soon as it is done.

Check my entry here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-21/?action=preview&uid=5344

Hope you enjoy it! Please leave a comment after testing (either positive or negative, as long as you are honest =P).

I “finished” the Ludum Dare with 50 minutes to spare!  The levels I finished aren’t super polished and the controls are still wonky, but overall I’m happy with the results.  Screens below:

Finally Finished!!

I didnt have much time to do Ludum this time but I did finish on time some how. I’ve been busy with soccer, work, and other things. When I first saw the theme that was picked I didnt know what to do. After some thought i decided to base it off of my first game I ever made (The father’s Day Scramble).  A game where you only use your arrow keys to move away from kids. I took the same idea and transferred it to aquatic properties and thus A Underwater Escape was born. This game (made by netGlow Games) features without a doubt, escape (just look at the title). You are a person, almost a child’s face that moves around the screen escaping sharks and harpoons. I could only add two because I didnt have enough time. While the game progresses, more sharks start to appear and everything gets more fast paced. You also have coins that increase your score through out the game. The objective is to get the highest score. If you get hit by an enemy then you go back to the title screen where you can submit your score or look at your achievements. YES! I did say achievements! Be # 1 on the scoreboard and play now at sites.google.com/site/netglowgames/.

Images will not upload now so I cant put anything up :/

Boingo’s Escape – Complete!

Posted by (twitter: @gaming4jc)
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 6:15 pm

Yes folks, in under 26hrs… actually < 16hrs (because I had sleep during this period) I was able to complete the challenge using GM 8.1 Light [gack]. All content in the game is original and done by me except for the sound effects and background music which are under a free license. It’s more or less a side-scroller with a few platfomer-ish features.

The storyline is about a cute little sheep called “Boingo” who jumped the fence and decided to wander out on his own, unknowingly falling into the trap of evil wolves waiting outside. In order to get free, he has to escape wolves, birds,  and various obstacles. Featuring 5 levels with lush graphics! The entire work is released under Creative Commons 3.0 Unported. Art will be posted to OpenGameArt shortly so others can benefit from my work. I’ll also make a mention of it over at my website.

You’ll need 7zip (who doesn’t have this now-a-day?) to open the file. My internet is dog slow, compression is a must. :-P

Enjoy! :-D

Escape from Monster City: Submitted!

Posted by
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 6:13 pm

After the last few hectic hours of finalizing everything, I finally submitted my game, Escape from Monster City!

The game’s homepage contains links to every version you could want- windows, linux, mac, applet, jar, webstart, as well as the source.

I’m really looking forward to playing everybody’s games as well as getting feedback on my own. This was my first Ludum Dare, and I had a lot of fun!

Now I should probably go eat…
