just finished the engine, starting on the music :)

I’ll try to try this

This would be my first ld.  I’ll be on an airplane most of tomorrow, but I’ve wanted to do one of these for a while, so I’m still going to try and get a game done for it.

I have a general idea of what I’m going to do; it should be fairly simple.  I’ll be using as3 and flixel for the program, probably photoshop for the art, sfxr for the sounds, and probably I won’t have any music.

Good luck to everyone.

I should be entering!

I’ve got an idea for what I might do but I’m going to go for a walk and ponder the possibility a little; I’ll get back to you.

I’ll be using Flash with Flixel for my framework, Gimp for pixelling, and Geany for text editing. I might make some music but sound is unlikely unless it’s just sfxr fiddling; no time for proper foley.

The challenging thing with springs and flixel is the lack of easily implemented sloped collisions, but I think I’ve found a way around that with my design :)

I’ll be keeping the graphics as lores as I can while still being descriptive for this, I’m thinking I might try for a 4×4 base and see how it works out, but I might be forced to go 8×8. We’ll see how it goes, I just don’t want to burn all my time for Art as I’m never able to commit to the whole 48 hours and end up getting ~10 hours production time.

Let’s get it AOWNE! >:D

1773 Tea Party

Posted by

Newbie reporting for duty here. This’ll be my first LD ever, and luckily for me, the title of your game must be a year was one of the themes I’ve been hoping for. Unluckily, my original idea had nothing to do with spring physics.

However, I’ve decided to make a game where you fling crates of tea into a harbor with a springboard, or something. I’m going to be using LOVE to make my game, because I think Lua is wicked fun to code in.

Have fun everyone!

Mini-LD – Zombies 1975

Posted by (twitter: @henrythescot)

I’ve got my idea all set up, I think.

My game will be titled “Zombies: 1975″. The entire title isn’t a year, but it has a year in the title. Deal.

The game’s story begins with the spread of a zombie-creating virus created by the soviet union that was spread around rural Michigan. The player takes the role of a zombie hunter fighting to rid Michigan of the communist undead.

I plan to take this into a post-LD version, as well. Hopefully.

I will be using the “Spring Physics” sub-theme in a dynamic difficulty system. It’s a bit of a cop-out, but I don’t really care,

For the record, I will actually use the spring equation (F = -kx) in my difficulty code. There ya go.

Anyway, off to write my boilerplate!

Peace

Allrighty, I’m going to give this MiniLD a shot. Going to use java with lwjgl. There was an old game called 1942 (I think) on nintendo that might be similar. It might also be a Raptor style game with spring physics somehow shoved in there.. hmm…

Missiles can be spring guided right? Or powerups…

So usual stuff for me, Openframeworks, Pixen, CFXR. So not much to say about that. Not sure if i’l finish, I’ve never done well in these Mini LDs. I kinda have an idea already so thats good.

MiniLD #23 Go!

Here goes!  The Title of your game must be a Year!  Feel free to use the round 6 variant: Game based on a year.

And the subtheme: Spring Physics
If you’re not doing an action game, I suppose you’ve got to be creative! :)

Good luck to everyone out there.  See you at the end of the 48 (or during if you’ll be in IRC)!  Go LD, go!

Mini-LD – Last Minute Idea Rethinking and some Other Noodling

Posted by (twitter: @henrythescot)

I’ve decided that my current idea would really work best with proper vector graphics, which I don’t have the ability to create. I have Inkscape, but I can only use those images in Flash as bitmaps. I need to be able to use images as vector within the Flash app.

That being said, I’m thinking that I’ll do something else.

I have a few different ideas to choose from, but I’ll wait until the theme is announced to decide anything concrete.

Thoughts and ramblings follow the break.

D-D-D-Declarations!

Oh yeah, this is my first LD! :D

I have found the idea, the music kind, the mechanics… I just hope it’ll be the “Title of your game must be a year” theme, ’cause otherwise I’ll have to shoehorn my idea or something… So far it’s a 2D game, topdown, about a firefighter rescuing people in a very specific moment in history… More on that later!

I’ll be using AS3 and FlashBuilder (the Flixel framework, most probably), Photoshop, musagi, sfxr, and chronolapse! Also, I’ll be using a SVN system to reduce the “undoable catastrophe” damage ratio, if ever there is one. I hope everyone uses a version control system of some kind.

During the compo I’ll be blog my ideas and how I expect to expand them, and how everything goes.

Aaaaaaaaannndd I will also be updating my personal blog over here : clicky

KICKASS WEEKEND, ENGAGE!

Count me in!

Posted by

Its my first LD competition in general, and I’m not quite sure what to expect. I’ll probably be writing my game in AS3 using Flash Builder as my IDE of choice, and most likely pixel tools in Flash for PNGs. I won’t be using any framework, possibly reusing a class for key input that I made a while ago (if its necessary). Who knows, if time permits I might make music using FamiTracker >_> but thats iffy.

Anyway, glad to be participating in my first LD! Good luck to everyone!

First MiniLD

While this is my first MiniLD, it is my second LD in general! =D I participated in the last big one and I hope to participate on this one. I’ve been learning Java the past few weeks so I’m planning on making a simple text adventure game for whatever theme is chosen. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish though because I hadn’t originally planned this weekend for an LD. So I have other commitments to take care of also, but hopefully I’ll get a little something out . =]

In for the mini!

I’m in for the mini LD.

I’ll be using Unity, Blender and gimp. I’m hoping to work a lot harder on fun gameplay this time, as opposed the the last ludum dare where I spent the first day making a bear model. Maybe a simple abstract art game. Definately 3D though.

MiniLD – Planning to Enter

A couple others made a post, so I figured why not.

I’ll be using AS3 with FlashPunk for the contest. Paint.NET for graphics and SFXR for sounds. FlashDevelop for coding.

I hope the theme is Kittens!

Saw a couple of declarations and decided to make one of my own.

Going to take the plunge and build the entire game in AS3 from scratch, using Flash Builder 4 and CS3.  Have been dipping my toe in and out of AS3 for the last year or so, decided that now was the best time to just get it over with.

Let’s see how nice the Theme Gods are for me.

Declarations

Yea Im making a declaration for the mini LD.  I plan on using Python or c++ with the normal libraries, and maybe a custom made swiss-army knife.  If I bring out the swiss-army knife I will post the link to it.

Mini-LD – I Intend to Do This, and am Declaring It

Posted by (twitter: @henrythescot)

I’ve got some base code for my bullet hell shmup (Lazed out for the past few days, got very little other than school work done), but I’m ready to work on other things for a while.

I am looking forward to the Mini-LD.

I have my game in mind, and partly designed. Regardless of the theme, I will shoehorn and/or BS that theme into my game. It’s a Mini-LD after all, and what would a Mini-LD be without someone bending the rules to their liking.

I’m not starting on my game early, though, so there’s that.

A bit about my game after the break, for folks who enjoy reading these sorts of things.
