Almost there

Just need to add a starting screen, and a couple more levels.

Here it is, find your way out type game!

Ok., I’m out, but at least I learned something.

Alright, so I mentioned on Saturday that I would be sharing my game idea and development with my college Game Dev club. Well, it turned out that pretty much everyone had to leave earlier than was expected. In addition, I really had no clue how to delegate tasks, and thus nothing got done even in the period in which we were together. I don’t want to abandon this game concept, I just am unable to complete it right now. Yes, I could have been working today on this, but I also had cleaning work to do in my dorm, so I really haven’t found myself in a positive direction.

Still, I have gained a few good things from at least participating in my first Dare. First, I appreciate the comments and suggestions for my Librarian Leviathan game design from my game dev club. I was able to clarify a few issues and introduce new ideas for the game design as well as understand how to develop the game iteratively. Second, a good friend of mine came in quite late for it, late enough that I was the only one left. He’s an aspiring game developer like me, though his background is mostly artistic. From our conversation we were actually able to start designing an exploratory platformer that we’ll probably get some work done on over break. Finally, I now realize that I should definitely have some base code for the next Dare. There were a lot of tasks that needed to be completed that were general enough to easily be done before hand, such as having a simple tile-based level editing tool, organization by key components, and so on. I’ll have to be a bit more prepared next time.

Still, I’m happy to see that there are a lot of successes with this Dare, and I can’t wait to try some games out!

Well Crap.

I had this nagging feeling I’d forgotten something all weekend. And here it is. -_-

Oh well, it looks like a JAM entry for me… Let’s see if I can make a game in 27 hours eh? :D

For the discovery theme, I’m thinking discovering new species, maybe just micro-organisms. With very pixel-y graphics, of course.

And done in Flash. Flash 8. (Hey, I’m running Ubuntu here) and AS 2.0.

This should be fun :D

Done.

I’m finally done. After 20 hours of developing The Last Moments is finished. This is my first LD entry but also my first really finished game ever. Play it here.

As explained in the readme, you probably need to have mingw installed on your computer for this program to work.

Incomplete:

-Music/sfx are still not implemented

-Some screens a little outdated

-Gameplay depth not satisfying

Known bugs:

-To be reported?

Everything has been said:

The Jelly Caves

Go play it and tell me what you think about it. The game is feature complete now, i’ll add some treasures and enemies in these three hours, and then fixing if it needs any.

I’ve submitted it already too :3

PS: Pause is coming

Aaack…

Hey guys, I’ve tested it out on the three machines in my house, now need your help making sure it runs fine! Here’s the mega-upload http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MSMI0DBD Sorry it’s so large, I had to use a .wav file rather than a .mp3 for the music to save some time, otherwise it wouldn’t be so large! Also, some of the TGA’s are somewhat large. Comment with any issues or praises :D

I’m currently getting down and dirty to be able to use an mp3 code, this is just too large of a file!

and that’s me out.

3 and a half hours to go, but that’s not enough time to turn this into a game. The final straw was having to dump the level I’d just spent most of the evening making. I’ll carry on and finish it, but that’ll happen over the next few weeks, not hours. Good luck to everyone who’s entering, and thanks to the organisers. See you in 2011!

And I’m finished

I’m satisfied with my game as it is. The game isn’t going to win the competition – but that isn’t what this was about for me. I made a game, by myself, in less than 48 hours and it’s one that I am proud to submit.

There’s still a bunch of stuff to improve on it at a later date (as listed on the page) but I’m very pleased.

This has been a great experience and I will definitely take part again in the competition at some point in the future.

Good luck to the rest of you that are still going!

Finished with plenty of time to spare.

Submission

The inevitable timelapse is here:

Although it is a very strange game, I am quite fond of it, and had a lot of fun making it.
Looking forward to playing through all of the submissions!

And the first timer finishes!

Looking back at the clock, at the start I felt way ahead, by the middle I felt I was behind, and in the end I finished 3 some hours early. Not bad for my first attempt imo.

Next time I’ll challenge myself more, now that I have a much better feel for things and my work flow has improved. However I’ll need to practice on my music and art skills, as they’re severely lacking.

While the event had its stressful moments and sleep deprived coding sessions, it was quite fun, and I look forward for the next one.

I am disappoint.

Due to some forseen, and yet more unforseen delays, I have missed out on ~10 hours of possible programming time.  This puts me irrevocably behind schedule.  I am somewhat disappointed to say that I will have to relegate my game to Jam status, since it is nowhere near playable at the moment.  Nonetheless, I am grateful for the added time this gives me to properly prepare a release.

Thanks LD, it’s been an awesome first bout!  Much more fun than I anticipated!  I hope that most of you will stick around on IRC for the Jam and the voting.  I’ll be there!

Look forward to release of Hakken by the Jam deadline, and further updates tonight (morning for some of you.)

Finished!!

Wow.  For the first time in AGES, I’ve actually finished a game. Not only that, but it doesn’t have any bugs either! I’m so proud right now it hurts. (Or is that the blisters from so much furious typing…?)

Here’s a quick screenshot to whet your collective appetite…

If you want to play, you can find the game here. The walk-through is available here.

I’ve finally finished my game! Damn these past couple of days have been fun. I’m glad I was able to finish ontime.

I’ll post a proper break down of what happened, what went right what went wrong ect after I get some rest.

Good luck to everyone still working on thier games.

Toboggan Ride!

I’m really happy with how things are coming along in my JAM entry.  I’ve always wanted to write a downhill sledding or toboggan ride simulator, and so far I have a pretty fun, fast, fully functional downhill experience working with good framerate in flash.  I’m nowhere near finished (thank goodness I have another day) but so far, so good!
