Alright! I am now submitted. Somehow when I started, I thought that I would have enough energy to port the game to windows after 9. Ha! No way that is happening, I am going to go to bed and curl up with a comic book.

I feel pretty good about my game, there are mechanical, aesthetic and experiential issues, but I think it is fun for at least 2 minutes.

Here is all the food that I ate and forgot to post:

cabbage rice and egg

breakfast 1, kix

kale and rice

more cereal

finished at last…

After nearly 40 hours in front of my screen i’ve managed to complete my first LD entry.

What I can say is that I am quite happy to have finished. I am also quite tired. Of course there’s many features I had to cut. Still I am quite happy to have something which works. (of course due to the fact that my game is made in html5, it works only on google chrome and there may still be some bugs…)

The Week end was also a very good opportunity to gather with with some of my friends at motion-twin. Now is time to go to sleep.

I wish to thank everybody who posted on the blog. We spent great times looking the photos. I must confess I didn’t take time to do the same. But next time I will try to participate !

Now for the sad part : my server just went down… so here is a new link to my game: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7838262/ld19.zip

Ant that’s a wrap !

Finally did it, with still some bugs included, but anyway, having only half the time this weekend didn’t prevent me to make something wich is somewhat playable.

Any and all feedback is, of course, much appreciated :)

Very happy to have participated, anyway,  hope to be there next time !

Lizard Wizard: Why It Is What It Is

Posted by
Sunday, December 19th, 2010 7:00 pm

My LD19 game ended up being about a lizard who runs around in caves swallowing flies which represent pieces of Wikipedia articles. WHAT THE HECK

My first blog post contains a vague concept of what I originally wanted this game to be about: seeking skill and knowledge in a cave system, as a lizard. You were going to be able to whip people with your tail. It was going to be awesome.

But I started thinking about the theme more, and I couldn’t make my mechanics fit. So I mentioned the idea of finding pieces of Wikipedia articles on the Mumble (group voice chat) and a couple of people responded positively. I had already implemented the lizard movement and cave generator, so I rearranged my plotwise justifications and started figuring out how to scrape Wikipedia for random article titles and text.

A word to the wise: scraping data from a user-edited site with its own special markup is pretty damn annoying. Lizard Wizard does an…okay job, but it took far too much time to do.

Well, I came up with an idea I’m not too happy with, but I did get it finished!

Complete with music and sound effects. Graphics done from a bunch of photos, makes the whole thing feel really weird.

Another nice meal I had this evening.

Credits to my girlfriend, who was away all weekend to let me concentrate on LD19. She prepared this meal when she returned this evening.

Finally done!

Im not going to make the comp, but thats ok.

Had some major setbacks last night, took me an hour to work out how to do realtime text in the new version of Blender where everything is rearranged. Then I got stuck on some basic python coding (coding at 4am just doesnt work for me…)

Either way I dont have enough of a game working for the contest, and I wont be making the jam either, got too many other things to do in the lead-up to christmas.

But ‘Discovery’ (working title) is not dead! Im determined to get it finished, and when its looking good Ill be sure to share it around so people can give feedback, and of course enjoy it.

Ill probubly post a video of it sometime on my youtube channel – here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ADEdge

Might as well go out with a bang. Spent my last 10mins of LD19 photoshopping :P

Either way its been a exciting 48 hours. I look forward to playing a bunch of games and seeing some winners! Also definitely looking forward to the next LD in april 2011, will be great!

AD-Edge out.

Science Is Real

Done!
Linky

The game is about science and research. You can make various discoveries, all from the comfort of your lab.

I’m not sure it actually makes any sense, but I’m happier with what I completed than I had expected to be. The music is pretty dreadful, but I figured I’d give composition a go. My suggestion is that you mute it, and go listen to They Might Be Giant’s Here Comes Science album which I pretty much have been, on repeat, right through development. Go listen to it even if you don’t attempt to play the game. It is 100% awesome.

Anyway, this is my first entry to LD and I had a great time. I haven’t really done any sprite art or composition before, and while the results aren’t exactly stunning it was way less painful than I expected. And I even got a few hours sleep.

And we’re Done

And by we I mean me.  This was my first ludum dare and I had fun.

First download the love2d framework.  Then download the batcave.love file. Double click, and enjoy.

Note: The .love file is just a zip file, so you can open it up and view the source.

Case Closed finished.

Please enjoy the finished product! Due to a combination of time constraint and sleep deprivation, the plot is a bit weak in one brief portion of the game, but it shouldn’t be any kind of significant negative. I didn’t have time to add any sound, unfortunately, so the game is silent.

And its done. Had to remove a few things near the end that were just not good enough and ruining the game as it is. That included my fancy overlay and effects. :(

“The power has died and you’ve been sent out into the desolate snow fields. Dig through the snow to uncover the abandoned power plants. Bring them online for long enough to win.

Be careful, You’re not alone in the snow fields.”

——-

- Mouse controls. Click anywhere on the title to start.

- Power plants have a multiplier effect, try to keep them all on at the same time.

- Space bar can help clear snow, but only 3 times.

This is the end, my friend, this is the end.

Well, I worked  in this game less of 8 hours because I was a little busy this weekend but I am glad of be here in a LD.

This was my first LD, and I really enjoy it. Next time I hope have more time to make a biggest game, and publish more post with pictures and more post.

I really like the concept behind my game, but I dont like so much the game “in situ”.

I hope you can play it and enjoy it, and remember this game is about you :P

All feedback is wellcome.

Ah, and here is the timelapse:

Greetings.

I’m DONE

Posted by

And I honestly didn’t believe that until the last two hours.

Grandpa has died and you have to step into his footprints.

You can find out, what grandpa’s heritage is here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-19/?uid=3036
All you need is a HTML5 compatible browser.

And an idea what this game wants you to experience. Ok, big words for this thing.

There are certain stories of what your grandpa actually was. The more you here from a story the more you learn. if you reach a certain point in that story, you’ll know what you must become.

Ok, I guess I didn’t get that straight to the player. And I’m still not really sure how to tell this ;-)

Anyhow, it’s done. It works. I’m proud! If you want to see this:
