Planning a local Ludum Dare 19 Gathering?

Definitely one of the cooler things that have cropped up lately are the gatherings during Ludum Dare events (Cambridge Indies, you guys rock). We definitely want to encourage more of you to do this.

So to help facilitate that, go add yourself to the map.

If you see many people near you, it might be worth trying to organize something. This could easily get out of hand, so post a reply ONLY if you see some people near you. Try to include a list of nearby larger cities, so to make searching for your proposed event easier. If you’ve found a few people and are ready to start discussing a venue, start new topic and I’ll link it up here.

Or if anybody has a better way to randomly organize many little gatherings (with almost no effort from me), let me know. :)

Heh it seems I am all alone here :D

This is a great idea :) We’ll hopefully be having another meetup in Cambridge for next month’s LD.

One small problem I see with the map is that it seems to clump people together if you just give City, Country as your location, so it’s difficult to tell how many people are actually active in a given area unless you enter a more specific address. Wonder if there’s anything we can do about that? Maybe a text version of the map or something?

I think I would be much more likely to actually finish an LD entry if there were a meatspace element to the compo!

According to the map, we are THREE in Spain. I hope more people join us…

Seems to be 3 in the Nottingham Derby area, if we get a couple more popping up might plan a meet up :)

I may just need to figure out the easiest way from Leamington to Cambridge. Would love to do this but theres only 1 person near me (so far).

I investigated Leamington->Cambridge by train a while back. Isn’t really practical is it?… and driving would mean no beer/costly parking…

Leamington really needs it’s own version of Cambridge Indies!

With all the studios around here, surely there’s got to be a lot of indies/wannabe-indies in the area?

I went to Warwick Uni where you’ve got the student society Warwick Game Design. I’m still involved vaguely with them but they haven’t organised anything for LD in the past: I think it tends to be outside of term dates.

But in any case, their contact details are here: http://warwickgamedesign.co.uk/contact Worth talking to them if you want to organise any indie events in Leamington/Coventry

There is also a Blitz-organised IGDA event happening Thurs 9th Dec, it’s meant to be focusing on indie developers. Don’t know if any of them are local or not though.

I rather dissapointingly seem to be the only Northern Irish participant. Either way, I’m holding an event that weekend with a group of other programmers, gamers, hackers and tinkerers. Its a 24 hour lock-in style event that encompasses the passions of all the aforementioned. Everyone’s welcome if there are any travelling folk in the Belfast area that weekend :D

Newb help required: How come when I click on someone else’s name on the map, it takes me to their profile:

    http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/author/USER/

but when I click on my own name on the map (i.e. USER=tartley) my profile page simply reads ‘Not found’, with a search box?

I’ve create an LD *Wordpress* profile, but evidently that’s not what’s required. Any clues?

Hmm… four of us in south vancouver island.

I’d love to do a Finnish and/or Nordic and/or European meetup.
    I’m so envious of Cambridge Indies. ;__;

  12. NMcCoy says:

Hey Portland! Any chance of a meetup here?

  13. ferasmi says:

hello guys … anyone in cambridge MA or Boston? if so then lets plan a meeting :0

  14. MrPhil says:

2 people meeting up in *Northern Virginia* at my apartment, but if more get involved who knows! Interested?

  15. AdricZero says:

I noticed a few people in Allen/Plano Texas area. Interested in meeting up Saturday morning at Market Street in Allen?

  16. It’s probably too late to organize this, but I’m in Cupertino, I see one person in what appears to be Foster City, one in Sunnyvale, a few in Oakland, someone up against the hills in…Fremont, I guess? and one person down in Alum Rock.

    Bay Area meetup, anyone?
