Sounds and music, huzzah
After working for a bit longer, I’ve got most of the content covered for my game:

There’s also some music. I’m not really much of a musician, but I think it turned out pretty well. Listen to it here!
If you’ve got time, give the test build a play and let me know what you think.
Level design done…
Level design done… it needs tweaks and such, and I’m missing more classes, to be honest, since the game becomes more complex…
Better rules for choosing targets would also help, since the current system doesn’t allow for the player to really be tactical in the game (too many random factors)…
Still, the game is fun, and since it has infinite retries (and one savegame, so even if you quit you can resume where you dropped off), it let’s you try different approaches…
I’ll ask people to stick to it, since the end cutscene has a twist!
Yep, I’m a regular Shyamalan… “What a twist!”
Anyway, screenshot of level 6 in full swing:
Time to add sound and music to the game, still have almost 3 hours for that… and try this in Release mode (been playing this in Debug build… hope it doesn’t bug out in Release *cross fingers*)…
Time to fire up Sfxr (DrPetter is a god!)…
Compile errors galore
:S
Just throwing it out there, for anyone else who shares my pain.
The game you will never get to play
Well, it didn’t work out for me this time. I put in more time than I think I did for any entry, but just ran into too many problems that slowed me down along the way.
The game is ‘Inception of the Borg’. It is about how the Borg came to be. You play the AI program that eventually becomes the Borg. It is a kind of piracy in space. Your ship is an assembly of modules, CommandModule, ShieldModule, LaserCannonModule, etc. As you defeat other ships, you “assimiliate” their modules, growing and improving your ship. The gameplay was to be similar to Star Control.
I think to get this thing done with my skill level I needed a higher level framework. I should have chosen FlatRedBall over SFML, or at least I should have brought in a physics engine. I might try porting it over to FlatRedBall to see if I can progress further with it.
I leave you exhaused, having suffered 30 hours of futility, with just this intro song and these screenshots. Nooow, muuuust sleeeeep.

Grrr, Id be a better developer if I had less friends
Well well done to everyone who participated this LD, I started, and made some great progress but then a friend turned up and wouldnt leave lol. Oh well theres allways next time I suppose.
And instead of going for the game I decided to use my time to make something that can help someone with their own prejcts,
I made a library for loading files from No-Tile Editor, I was going to use it for my project but in the end I only had a few hours, of devtime.
I have a download link on my website:
http://www.antsportfolio.co.uk/?p=427
feel free to use as you see best, good luck to everyone still working.
Im really looking forward to seeeing what people do with this theme.
thanks -Ant
Development timelapse
Here’s a quick timelapse of my development process during LD18. Timelapse Video, LD18 Recycle Defense
A short music protest
Before you all post your fancy lovely timelapses, please be aware of what music you want to use. Now before you go, I don’t have anything good so I’ll just use ‘Ice Kitty and the Purple Tomatoes volume 3′, keep in mind, that not everyone may appreciate that kind of music. So, without further adu, I’d like to make a small suggestion:
http://8bc.org/
Please consider finding some good chipmusic. There is a lot of it free for any use here so don’t be afraid to grab a couple songs, give credits to the artist somewhere, and add it. Have fun.
“Done” aaaand… “done”
Heeeeey yooou guuuuys!
My first ludum dare is now over (for me) and here is my submission:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-18/?action=preview&uid=2365
Things learnt:
- I’m not that great at art
- I can create an awesome intro and title screen
- My idea was way to complex for a 48h compo
- I’m bad at compressing stuff
- I should use unity/flash/somethingotherthanxna next time
I hope you’ll endure the download size and try my game
And breathe…
Somehow I’ve gone from feeling like I’d barely started to being ‘finished’ in a couple of hours.
My entry is posted here. I like the core concept so I’m planning on doing more work on it after the competition to polish and add the missing features I’d like to have added.
I have a timelapse recorded but it’s taking a long time to convert and there is work in the morning. Will upload tomorrow.

3 hour status update…
So there is a mere 3 hours left in my first Ludum Dare event. The idea has come along slowly over the weekend. With both having to acquaint myself with AS3 and the Flixel library, there has been no shortage of learning this weekend for me.
My original idea is still very much in tact. In fact, here are some screenshots to show the current status:
Still a lot of work to go though, and not a whole lot of time.
TODO:
- Add HUD display of time left for each host
- Add pain threshold for host Guys
- Add individual abilities to each Guy (ArmyGuy shoots, MedicGuy heals, TechGuy uses computers)
- Make an actual playable level so it FEELS like a game!
Hopefully that’s doable in 3 hours…
Oh, and if you want to try the current build for yourself, go ahead (Arrows move, Space to shoot).
OH AND A TITLE SCREEN, BLAH! (Maybe…
)
Pills
AAAAnd I’m done !
Good night everyone !
Constatine Sucks: Update 4
Constatine Sucks is nearing its complete stages. I just need to add an ending and package it all up.
I think this is the closest I’ve ever gone to a deadline, probably from watching Notch’s livestream most of the time. XD

Also, the screenies are squished. The resolution is 640×480.
Metagun: COMPLETE!

I made it! It’s a bit difficult at times, but that’s what makes games fun, right?
You can play it by clicking here.
I’m looking forward to playing everything everyone has done, the screenshots I’ve seen sure look tasty! But first, sleep.
Kanbran, done
Gameplay is done, and I now choose sleep instead of fancy redrawn graphics. Decided to do primarily game design this time around, rather than technical experimentation or flashy content. Kind of happy with how that turned out.
Download for those who want to play right now. Win32 exe, control with arrow keys. Let me know if it seems broken and I might rush to fix it before I go to bed.
Enemyinfection Finished
40h without sleep….
I wanted to add some levling stuff but iam too exhausted to go on.
The Result is good i think.
Now i just need to submit this somehow.
Going for the jam
Things aren’t going as fast as I had hoped and it doesn’t look like I can finish my game in the next hours, so I’m going for the jam! (Should have made that decision earlier, then I wouldn’t have had to code that basic platform stuff again…)

Timelapse added!
I’ve added a timelapse to my entry!

Check it out!
