Sushi Overload – MiniLD #20 FINAL!
I’m very happy to report that my entry into the Ludum Dare MiniLD #20 is complete. The game is called “Sushi Overload” and stars a greedy cat named Fattikins who loves fish. After getting bored with traditional fishing, he gets a better idea: fishing with GRENADES!
Cut to a big explosion and tons of fish falling form the sky. Gobble up as many as you can but watch out for debris like tires, anvils, broken bottles and TNT.
Pace yourself! If you get too greedy and eat too much you will start to move slower and slower.
The game is written in HTML5, with a fallback to Flash on older browsers for the music and sound. No downloads required, you can play right away at this link, which also has some screenshots and a timelapse video of the entire process:
Here are some screenshots:
Here are the tools I used to create the game:
I really enjoyed working on this, my very first game compo. I hope to write many more in the future. I would LOVE your comments, feedback, encouragement. If you comment on my game I will happily test, review and comment on yours.
Kind regards,

Screwing it off.
I might have to completely screw the idea I have.
Why? It’s too complicated to finish in 3-4 hours for someone who doesn’t even know pygame that well.
So what I AM doing is making a game where you are an alien saucer that steals minerals from planet Earth. Simple.
Asterism

I just submitted my first (Mini) Ludum Dare entry!
I call it Asterism, since it’s about collections of stars. You collect stars at the start and then you use them to shoot a massive horde of enemies that advances ever toward you. Every game object is a randomly generated rectangle, so no repeats of anything.
You can play it here: http://www.vrac.iastate.edu/~reu/metablast2010/asterism/
[final] Mini ld48h #20 – Release 1: Trash & Treasure
This was a fun contest any further releases will be marked as such, the main thing that I might add later is a High Score keeping routines. Most of the images were taken with a cellphone and Highly scaled down the rest was lazily drawn.
The Game is available at My Goggle Site for download (look under screen-shots).
Enjoy the game:

[final] Greedy Fishing
Ok, after some huddle with my gui I finally can present:
‘Greedy Fishing’
You and your opponent are fishing, trying to get the most out of the lake that can be handled by your boat. All you have to do is to decide to get another fish or if you think you got enough you can see what the computer is doing… Actually I wanted to add much more stuff, but time is running out, so have fun.

Poop Snake
Okay, so here’s my first ever Ludum Dare entry. I’ve embraced my inner 12 year old and made poop a central focus of the game, along with eating apples and cake (It’s greedy, I swear! The cake is stolen.) It started out as a cliché snake game in which the snake goes around eating things to grow, and pooping them out. But a bug in the pooping code gave the snake diarrhea, and it was so hilarious I had to make it a feature.
In the game you control a greedy pooping snake that will eat anything, but if it eats the walls, itself, or its own poop, it dies. The apples are healthy, and make the snake poop little poops. But the cake is a lie, and will give the snake the runs, which gets worse as the snake grows. The controls are simply the arrow keys. The animation is a bit jerky and the game is slow at first, but gets fairly challenging as the snake goes faster and there’s more poop.
The game uses Allegro 5, which is still in development so you have to download it with subversion in order to build the game. I’ve only built it with Linux, so the build system is likely broken on other platforms. Should be a cinch to port though.

Ninja Vs. Zomibe Pirate Fish
I’ve been working hard on Ninja Vs. Zombie Pirate Fish. Heres a few screens.

So your a ninja who is swimming around trying to get treasure, and kill all the evil zombie pirate fish!
Simple controls, D pad to navigate and space throws a throwing star ( you only get 20! ). The red box is the collision detection in debug mode, so that will be gone. I just need to fill in the rest of the level and make the boss. I don’t think I’ll have time to make better graphis, or audio

Edit: See the submission page for download.
greedy chase scene

my game’s about chasing a person (is that all?)
I’m almost done with the coding, just need to finish some animations, add some more backgrounds and have a nice ending.
Greedy gang fail.
Idea or at least my implementation didn’t turn out very fun and I’m too lazy to start it all from scratch. So, I ingloriously withdraw from compo.
Learned lesson: think better about what you want to get in the end.
Here’s a couple of screenshots:
Setbacks…
Unfortunately, I’m going to need to remake my game because i can’t get some the math right and it’s taking too long to figure out.
- reasons to work on code before making almost every graphic.
…I hope I can get this finished…
Update
A screenshot of game in progress. As you can see its pretty much high tech stuff.

A little preview
So I’ve gotten all the utility code done. Pretty simple code, I just I had to test it to make sure it worked. Here is a screenshot of my terrible spaceship and city background.

What the ufo and background look like
Now I know I won’t get an award in presentation. >.> The background is one image, not really any kind of object or gameplay changer. Anyways, it’s pretty much nonfunctional, I just assembled this to see if the functions worked and to show you guys here at LD.
Music and voiceovers: done!
I just put the finishing touches on the music and voiceover sounds. Yep, I recorded myself playing a little acoustic guitar for background music and put on a funny cartoon voice for sound effects using my microphone. There’s even an “intro cinematic” of sorts.
Am I finished my game? Not quite: I still have some placeholder art to improve tomorrow but otherwise the game is playable so I will for sure be able to finish.
Ken Vs. Ken – I’ve Done it at Last!
Ken Vs. Ken is complete! Yeah! Yeah!
Errr…. *ahem*
There is a title screen:

You can play both 1 player against an AI or with 2 players on one machine!
There is a black “curtain” that scrolls across the screen between rounds, there are signs that say things like “Ready”, “Start”, “You Lose!”, and “Player 1 Wins!” that scrolls down at the beginning and end of rounds, and the health bars scroll up off the top of the screen at the end of a round and down into place at the beginning of each round!
All in all, I’m very, very happy. I’ve finally done it: I’ve finally finished an LD game.
Here are a couple more screenies: (No round begin/end shots, though. Can’t pause during that time)

A fight well underway. Forgot who won that one. I think it was Ken.
And here:

Ken Rondle is off to a good start!
My second MiniLD20 entry
Yeah, so after that shamefull release of the first game I wasn’t content, but more importantly it showed me I can still make small games like I used to make on GameMaker, that’s why I decided to give miniLD20 another go and do something that’s actually fun to play.
Here’s the first screen:

It might not look like much but i’ve spent the last 3 hours trying to make a little sperm looking fella with a wagling tail and failed miserably. Still I’m not one to give up so easilly so I added another tail and made it move like an octopus.
I’m still not sure how I’m gonna make a theme-related game out of that but I sure like swimming with this guy around.
Covetous
I’m making a game about desiring something much more basic than wealth or status: existence.
MiniLD#20 Sample art WIP
Just for fun here is a scan of some sprites I just drew using a felt tip marker. 43 different fish and about a dozen non-fish items. That should be enough things to make the edible objects without any reuse. If I need more shapes, I’ll simply tint them different colours in photoshop.

MiniLD 48h #20 – Trash & Treasure (Screenshot)

First Screen Shot of Trash & treasure
I’ve got the basics of the game working but I need to add more objects, a menu system, a timer, and a high score keeping routines when game over occurs. I plan to use allot more photographs & horrible hand drawn art
.
