GDC Roll Call

Hi everybody,
I’d like a quick show of hands who will be at the Game Developers Conference in March. I realize the IGF Mobile, IGF Student, and Gamma results aren’t available yet, but we’d just like to get a rough idea how many Ludum Dare folk will be attending (or *might be* attending). Post a comment.
Also, let us know if you’re a San Fransisco resident (or familiar with the city). We could use some expertise, as Phil and I are just tourists. We’d like to arrange some sort of Ludum Dare meetup one of the evenings, and could use some help picking an establishment.

I will be there Monday afternoon, and I leave Sunday morning.
I will be there Saturday (two days before GDC) and leaving Sunday afternoon after GDC.
Also, Phil will be giving a talk.

I’ll be there Monday for the Flash Gaming Summit on March 8th and then staying for GDC all week (attending the Indie Game Summit) and flying out Friday March 12th. I look forward to the chance to say hello to some LDers in person!
This is the first I’ve heard of the Flash Gaming Summit. Did anyone attend last year? Thoughts? Reviews?

I haven’t been before so I don’t have any personal reviews but I’ve heard good things from flash developers who went last year. This is only the second year it has run.
I’ve not completed an LD yet but would still be great to meet up!
Have been there a few times before, still don’t know if I will be coming this year or not.

Would love to go though, but 4k (flight+entry) are like 5 months of salary in Argentina
I’ll be coming up friday night and going through the expo on saturday. Wish I could be there longer, but I’ve got my last week of classes during gdc and finals the week after.
I would like to go too, however can not afford the steep price of a pass AND travel. If I where to be selected for a free pass from the GAMMA crue (I am working on a little experimental game) then I will borrow some cash for tickets, hotel, food, etc. In that case I will be down for the LD meetup!
I’ll be there. Arriving Saturday March 6th, leaving Sunday March 14th. I’ve got the All-Access Pass and will be attending the Indie summit.
I’m not going to GDC but I’m just across the bay and would try to make a meetup, depending on when, that week is pretty busy already for me.
As for venue suggestions, the Metreon is a good place to meet near the convention center, there’s a nice food court with lots of choices (Firewood Cafe, Buckhorn tri-tip, a good noodle place), good food and usually not crowded, and there’s a few bars in there too if people want to stick around and chat afterwards. The “food emporium” in the Westfield Mall is also excellent, top-notch food including gourmet choices like Slanted Door, great ethnic food of all kinds, killer dessert options, but still counter service so it’s convenient for everyone and there’s plenty of options, but it might be a little loud/crowded.
If we want table service, there’s also a Chevy’s (meh) and a Denny’s (yuk, but open late) nearby. There’s a California Pizza Kitchen a few blocks away, too, I haven’t been to that one but their other locations are always tasty and good for large groups.
If we’re willing to walk a bit further, or take a cab, there’s literally thousands of options…
Some great ideas. I’m liking the Metreon idea myself, since it should be especially easy for everyone to find. Westfield Mall’s Food Emporium, I’m pretty sure I stumbled in to there by accident last year, but yeah, it *may* be a little noisy. You may have solved my “where to get lunch” problem however.

What Phil and I have discussed so far, the meetup will be one of the evenings. Not IGF Awards night, and there’s one other night we’ll be busy with something. We’ll know more as the conference gets closer.
I’ll be at GDC. I may have a couple of free exhibitor passes if anyone needs one (unfortunately these won’t get you into the talks, but you can at least spend some time with people and see the IGF and Gamma bits of the showfloor). I’m usually in the IRC channel, please feel free to contact me if a pass would come in handy.
Nice. I’ll be at GDC for sure. I’d planned just to attend the expo and lots of networking events. If you still have an exhibitor pass Sparky, that’ll save me the two bills for the expo pass. Much appreciated.

Ok, yeah. I wasn’t going to come but now I think I might. A live, in-person LD jam would be phenomenal. Also, I might get to finally meet Terry face-to-face.
