Cursed – Additional Notes
Seen that people have found my game boring (which it is, tbh)… but there’s a note I’ll have to make: the “correct” way of winning the game is by destroying enemy ships, you’ll get 10g for each one you sink, get 100g to buy a map, and go to the map location…
You can find some enemy boats to the West of the starting position, for example…
Don’t forget you have infinite lives, the only drawback of sinking is that you lose half your gold…
Think I should have given the player a starting map and/or some money, so they feel more the need to explore more…
I would add this to my entries post, but I couldn’t find a way to edit it…
Bring back the ability to comment on my own post!
Hi, I was following this site and liked your idea for the game a lot! Here are some of my thoughts on the game, remember though that I think that with a few tweaks this game would be amazing.
I liked battling, but I sucked too much at it! I think to balance it right, enemies should have less HP then you have, and costs of everything should be divided by 10. Maybe make upgrades to your ship a bit more pricy or something. I didn’t reach more than 30 gold because of dying often.. maybe I didn’t see some way of exploiting the AI to sink those ships?
When you are on an island that is not your homebase, how do get on your ship again??? This forced me to quit one time.
Also, after sailing with the stream to the right for a couple of minutes, I got to the end of the world, and it took so damn long to go back that I was forced to quit. So maybe make the stream less powerful or sometimes turn around completely.
I also experienced the sounds playing after I quit the game like someone else commented.
I hope to see another version of it some day.
Hi! Thanks for your very kind comments…
The fighting is very hard, not by design, but simply because I didn’t have much time to balance it correctly, to be honest… Same goes for the economy, didn’t have time to playtest it enough to understand what was the sweet spot…
You should be able to get back to the ship just by going into the water near the boat, if that didn’t happen it was probably a bug.
The wind shouldn’t be always blowing in the same direction, that is probably also a bug…
Plenty of those to go around…
If you liked the game, I think you would love “Pirates” by Sid Meier… It is an awesome game, and was in no small part the inspiration for this one…
thanks i’ll check it out!
