Pizza

I made myself a mozzarella pizza for dinner.  It looks the part, but I think I need to work on my sauce-making skills – there was definitely something missing…

Game-wise, I’ve got the scrolling mostly working except for a weird offset between the player character and the rest of the level that’s suddenly appeared.  I’m going to try and fix that now, then hopefully I can get the light beams up and running before bed.

    Ooh, I’d like that recipe!

:) Okay, here goes (like I said, it’s not perfect, though it does look good). It’s drawn together from a bunch of different recipes I’ve tried:

      The base:
      100g plain flour
      1/2 sachet yeast
      some warm water

Mix the flour and the yeast, then add the water until you get a good dough. Knead for about 5 mins, then leave in a warm place to rise (I find the fan grate on the side of my laptop works great for this…). I usually leave it a couple of hours.

After it’s risen, knead it a bit more, then flatten it out into a pizza shape (with your hands, not a rolling pin – a rolling pin will knock out any air pockets that have developed).

      The sauce:
      1/2 small red onion, chopped
      1/4 tin chopped tomatoes
      pinch of sugar
      pinch of basil
      1tbsp olive oil

In a pan, fry the onion in the olive oil for about 5 mins, then add the rest. Cook for 5-10 mins, stirring. If you’ve got time, you might want to whizz it with a blender.

      Putting it together:
      mozzarella
      pinch of basil
      pinch of oregano

Preheat your oven as high as it will go. I’m not sure mine is quite hot enough for pizzas, so I do the next part in stages. First, I stick a baking tray in the oven for about 5 mins, then I put the pizza base on it (with some olive oil so it doesn’t stick), and put that in the oven for about 5 mins (if I don’t do this, the base is always slightly uncooked in the middle). Then I add the sauce and the mozzarella, basil and oregano, and put it back in the oven for about 10 mins. I cheated a bit and bought pre-grated mozzarella since I find it a bit easier to work with. Also, I only had dried herbs – fresh basil tastes much better for something like this.

      Hope that helps :)
