Walls of Tron final.

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 5:14 pm

It’s 3am and I’m heading to sleep. Haven’t managed to put in all the features I wanted but I think I managed quite well. The game is simple one of Tron – avoid running into walls as long as possible, prolong the inevitable.
Basic setup is for 2 playes, you can change it to single player mode by modifying config.xml that lies in ‘Content’ directory. You’ll need newest .NET and XNA (3.0) redistribuable to  play the game so make sure you have them!

Controls are Left/Right arrow for player 1 and A/S for player 2.

Binary for windows

UPDATE: Installer for windows , includes redistribuables. Avoid the hassle, yo! :)

UPDATE #2: Source

ENJOY! Also, since my dev comp is down I can’t take pictures of game, will update later on, for now using older screenshot:

Walla Zombies! – Final

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 4:54 pm

Added in some particle effects and a small melee attack, making this game complete!  It could probably use a few more levels, but that won’t happen inside a two-day window.  Anyway, here is the OS X app, and a larger package with source and the Ruby all-in-one installer for Windows.  For you Linux dudes, I added some small comments on how to get Ruby+Gosu going (nothing tricky or even hard).  Just check the README for instructions and info.  Enjoy!

Well here ’tis

Baccie?

For instant gratification Go an play it here

It definitely have a wall of doom feel to it.  So much so that I haven’t completed it myself yet.  I _think_ it’s doable.

I wonder how this editor will screw up today….

Final: Cat Protector!

Posted by

Wow, cool stuff! Protect the cats from the wall of doom in this cool game!

(Written in python with help from cocos2d, pyglet and pymunk)

update: I fixed a better place to put the files on, and renamed the downloads to better match the naming scheme.

Download: viblo_LD14_CatProtector.zip (python code/source)

(Windows binary: viblo_LD14_CatProtector_win32.zip)

FINAL – The Hotel Advance

How is this related to Advancing Wall of Doom? Well, the player has to get to the ladder of the level to advance higher up. The ‘doom’ would be the cans, lasers, and the bottomful pits. The part after you get into the chimney are just ‘final’ levels that have no relation to the theme.
Read READ MEEEEEEEEEEE LD14.txt for more info.

There are two secret areas, can you find them?

Download

EDIT: Uploaded the image to the site.
EDIT2: Game Maker 7 source: Download

So close…

Nearly there.  Just one more sprite to finish, and I think that’s it.  So just enough time share the title screen, which I’ve now eaten :)

Now to get this thing finished up and submitted…

Here’s my entry.

I’ll write more later, cause I have to go to the Sharks/Ducks hockey game!

MOTOJUMP *Final*

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 4:36 pm

Well, this is my entry for Ludum Dare 5hr. Given that I was somewhat otherwise engaged, I decided to interpret the theme rather liberally, and in the time available to me, have produced a rather atrocious remake of “Daredevil Dennis”.

By way of apology, I’ve not used python in ages and this was my first stab at using pygame! Keys: LSHIFT brake, RSHIFT accelerate, LCTRL jump.

Final Game: Wall of Cats

My final game, made with Processing.

Wall of Cats Screenshot

You can play the game as an applet in your browser. You will, of course, need the Java plugin.

Or, download the application in a zip file (Win/Mac/Linux, all in the same zip). You will need the Java Runtime Environment.

I had fun, hope you all did too!

Almost done

Gameplay’s all there, now I have 2 and a half hours to add sound and music and fix any bugs that might creep up during that time. For now though I eat my dinner, then shower. And if I get time, you might see an epic food VIDEO from me later on…

Mm, I think I had this same thing during one of the previous LDs.

The Glacier of DOOM

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 4:32 pm

It seems there are a lot of games with the word “DOOM” in the title…

Anyway, here’s my entry. :) I decided to try something a bit different so I made three mini games that are all played with only mouse. The games are wrapped in a story mode and you can unlock arcade versions by winning the story versions. The sound effects are rather crappy so you can press “s” to toggle the sound.

Download (python + pygame)

I’ll try to make a windows binary tomorrow though I remember last time it was a rather painful experience.

I’ll post more comments and perhaps a post mortem later. Good night.

Edit: windows port: download

Short Fuse 2 – Final

Short Fuse 2

Short Fuse 2: The Escape

Here’s my LD14 entry.  It’s flash, so just click here to enjoy! Source is at this link.

I’m sad that I am going to get stomped in the Journal category, considering I spent the whole weekend documenting the development in great detail for my Behind The Dumb video series. But no way will I have that edited in time, so I’ll just take my lumps, and you be sure to check that out when it does come out next weekend (a different episode is coming out this week). I’m also recording a timelapse (hi timelapse! You are watching me type this!), but I’m just going to incorporate that into the episode too.

VERY motivated but tired

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 4:26 pm

Is there anything worse than giving up just after building momentum because of being so much tired?

My motivation is at its peak, I even enjoy playing what I made so far, but I am so tired I want to sleep so badly.

Which means – deja vu – I failed to meet the deadline. However, I hope to finish the game and post it some other day here. Pity I wasn’t able to make it within set time-frame.

Cheers everyone

Hill Climber: Extreme Edition

Posted by
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 4:17 pm

I managed to make a game in the end. It’s very limited but it has a nice style to it.

Requires python and curses. (Sorry windows fans. I might make a pygame version if time permits)

To play, open a terminal, go to where the file is and type: python HillClimberExtremeEdition.py

That should be all you need for it to work. It’ll take a few seconds to load up.

Get it

EDIT: I’ve made some last minute changes before the deadline. Now the game is slightly harder. Also there are two types of food.

EDIT 2: If you got an error about CURS_SET or something, try redownloading.

Stormwall (Final)

Posted by

My entry for Ludum Dare 14, Advancing Wall of Doom is called Stormwall. Here are the download links:

Windows and Linux Binaries

Alternate Binaries Link (Thanks Uhfgood)

Source Code

The goal in this game is to maneuver your hovercar as best as you can, and use a satellite beam system in order to keep from being destroyed by either the advancing storm wall or the proximity mines ahead. The game is setup to continue as long as you can survive, so go for a highscore and let me know how you do! Have fun!

Back from basketball

I’m back from basketball and I have less than 3 hours left to do any more polishing I can fit in.

Good luck everyone!

Finalized the wall

Got around to adding some gameplay in there, so I think it’s alright to call it a game now :)

POST-FINAL EDIT:

I understand some are having difficulties understanding how to play it, so here’s a few key tips:

  • You have 3 unique battle pieces at your disposal; namely Melee (sword), Ranged (arrow) and Defend (shield)
  • In certain levels you have a barracks at your disposal. It can produce a piece with X units every turn.
  • You need to wipe out every enemy piece before it kills yours off, or reaches the opposite end.
  • The wall (red pieces) only has one action (move forward), and cant defend itself.
  • The damage a piece does is represented by the number seen below its icon in the turn-queue. (except the wall, which shows the total units the wall has split over its pieces)
  • Some pieces does extra damage in certain situations (e.g. when a defender retaliates)
