Ludum Dare 13 - Start Time Poll
Posted by news
Hey there,
Ludum Dare #13 will be December 5th-7th Weekend.
Since we have so many regulars in the UK and all over Europe, we’re considering trying something slightly different this time. Moving up the start time.
Our usual Ludum Dare start time is at 8 PM PST (11 PM EST). Should we start
- 1 Hour sooner (7 PM PST/10 PM EST)
- 2 Hours sooner (6 PM PST/9 PM EST)
- 3 Hours sooner (5 PM PST/8 PM EST)
- 4 Hours sooner (4 PM PST/7 PM EST)
Leave a comment. We’ll announce the final start time at the end of the week.
Thanks,
Mike Kasprzak (PoV)

I wouldn’t mind the 2 hours sooner start time, but I’m in central (soon to be mountain), so it’s all pretty much the same for me. The earlier ones might make people in the western hemisphere run into conflict with their friday afternoon work though…
I guess we’ll see via the comments.

I’d take 2 hours sooner ..
November 13th, 2008 at 3:45 am
2 – 4 hours sooner would be quite wonderful.

I could take it 2-4 hrs sooner! I am in MST but it would be nice to start earlier on Friday and finish earlier on Sunday.

Any of them work for me, really. On one extreme I make dinner before I find out the theme, and on the other I find out before I leave work and think about it on the train ride home.

That means it ends sooner too? So I vote to keep it at 8pm to give me more time to finish. I’m not going to wake up two hours earlier on Sunday, after all. Also, that gives me an hour after work on Friday to think about the topic and have dinner with my family. But if it were to move to an earlier time, I wouldn’t mind that much, so it’s all good!

I’d take 4 hours sooner…
November 13th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I’d prefer leaving it as it is or only moving it back an hour. Being in GMT land even 4 hours back makes it midnight on Friday, too late to really start, so I’d prefer the extra time in the wee small hours of Monday morning to panic about finishing.
November 13th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I’d prefer to move it forward by 2, 3 hours or so. Definitely not sooner though.
November 13th, 2008 at 11:46 am
I also vote for four hours sooner.

The current time is 06:00 for me. That’s ok for me. That way I can sleep normally, wake up early, get cracking right away, and on Sunday I can stay up late doing some final polishing. Works pretty well for me. If anything, I would move it two hours later. I doubt moving it to a sooner time helps most Europeans.

Im with robot_guy. leaving it as it is. (starts at sat morning 4 or 5am?) It’s too late to start at friday, but gives time to polish at sunday night if I want. I live in sweden.

Moving it sooner would make it harder for me as well, since it would cut back time from the end, and still start at middle of night. Moving the start to be later would help more..
Anyway, if the time stays dec 5-7, I won’t be able to attend though, just that one weekend is already reserved for me…

How are these better for europeans ?
Right now i start around 4-5 am, its a bit of a pain, but i can hack it. But you can place it sonner, ill just work longer, i guess.
November 14th, 2008 at 7:38 am
It’s all good to me.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:11 am
Move it to later by 2 or 3h would be best for europeans (like me!)
November 14th, 2008 at 11:29 am
I’m from Europe and I vote to leave it as it is!!! For me it starts and ends at about 3 or 4am, so I can start early on Saturday morning and have a few extra hours on Sunday after midnight before the deadline.
I’d actually prefer to move it later, since I’m always still sleeping for the first 4 or 5 hours and I always run out of time at the end.
November 14th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Yeah, I’m from europe too, and moving it earlier wouldn’t really benefit me at all, rather the opposite. Later would be better.
November 15th, 2008 at 10:48 am
4h earlier.
I’m from Europe and I think it helps because I usually stay up until ~2am on the weekends, minimum. With an early announcement I can do some sketching and sleep over the idea before starting to hack it out. I’ve never gotten anything done before Saturday noon anyway
November 15th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Aye. From Belgium making it 4 hours earlier means it starts at 1 am which means you can sleep over the theme which is nice. 1 to 3 hours earlier would not be too good, but in the end it doesn’t really matter too much since what you lose on one end you make up at the other.

Earlier! In Australia the finish time is always on a monday… which means I need to take monday off to finish… or simply never finish or submit anything
cu!
November 20th, 2008 at 11:35 am
I vote for 2/3 hours earlier, 4 has it starting on my trip home from work, but I wouldn’t mind that too terribly…
November 21st, 2008 at 9:50 am
4 hours earlier please.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:01 am
2 hours later would be more or less optimal for me =)
It’s basically same to me, as it currently starts while I’m sleeping and ends after I’ve hit the bed on sunday.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:52 am
1 hour earlier, but either way it works out pretty well for PST folks
November 26th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
4 hours earlier would be ideal for me, I usually stayed up until 5am when the theme was announced and then was tired all weekend as a consequence..
November 29th, 2008 at 2:50 am
I definitely don’t want it starting any sooner.
November 29th, 2008 at 2:51 am
Oh, that was me btw.
November 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I would would also say 2hrs later, as I live in uk, means I can get up early and work on it. I imagine it would b similar 4 most europeans
November 30th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Yes, I am french, and for me, 8 PM PST is 4AM. With one hour sooner, I will must get up to 3AM, too early for me ! 4AM is ok, but 5AM or 6AM (one or two hour later) is better for me.
December 1st, 2008 at 8:58 am
Norwegian here.. 4 hours earlier would be best.

Hmm… I’m sorry, I misunderstood. A bit later would be best, yep. :-D.
