You can turn this off (privacy -> applications -> other applications), but ONLY if you remove ALL facebook platform applications from your profile. It seems to me this is a completely arbitrary restriction to discourage people from protecting their information, and it's a pity that it stops people (such as me) from using completely reasonable applications. From what I hear, it's virtually impossible to get rid of one once you've made it, and they hang on to your personal info for the rest of eternity. I regret having made mine, but it's done now!
