I have fun reinventing my code every time. It keeps me fresh, and I finish basic routines faster in each contest. It does get a little repetitive though. I do things I'm not proud of to keep it interesting, like name variables Fred and Wilma, or make really complex classes to do simple tasks.

A lot of the time I am planning out the rest of the code while writing the easy stuff too, so i think it actually helps my flow. With base code I tend to spend more time looking up what the functions are called etc.

I totally agree about the point on timing. This was one of the worst times for this sort of thing. I can't believe I managed to eek a game out at all :)

Yeah, I am getting sick of making simple font routines every single time... but making basecode is boring, so I will probably continue to do this for the rest of my life.
